The Perfected Skincare Routine for Glass Skin

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Guelph chapter.

Since the dawn of time, I have had really bad skin and I have a really bad habit of picking at my face so whenever I see even a little spot on my face, I go crazy. So, I have tried a A LOT of products, ranging from drugstore items to weird face soaps I got from a shady lady on the street and I am happy to say, I have found the perfect skincare routine. I have cracked the code.

First off, let’s get this out of the way, the secret to good skin ladies is ALWAYS taking your makeup off before bed. I don’t care if you’re super tired and half asleep, keep a thing of makeup remover wipes next to your bed and let your skin breathe at night. If you keep your makeup on, all the gunk gets clogged in your pores and then you get breakouts and that sucks.

So, start off with washing your face twice a day, (don’t over-cleanse, yes that’s a thing) I usually wash my face at night and do all my skincare stuff whereas in the morning I like to rinse my face with ice-cold water without cleanser.  I don’t want to strip my face of the natural oils in the morning and that works for me but honestly what works for me might not work for you, so do what you think is best for your skin. My ALL-time favorite cleansers are glossier milky jelly and CeraVe cleanser. Guys, these cleansers are a gift from Skincare gods, they are really light and aren’t harsh on your skin which is great because another important point is that you need to be gentle with your skin. I can’t tell you how many times I have vigorously rubbed my face with a towel after stepping out of the shower, don’t be me.

Ok, now let’s talk sunscreen. This is such an IMPORTANT step that so many people don’t do, I was one of them until I discovered that prepping my skin with moisturizer (more on this in a bit) and sunscreen leaves my skin dewy and my foundation goes on much smoother. The sunscreen I would recommend is the Neutrogena Extra Sheer Sunscreen, I use the spray, but I have also used the cream version, and these are wonderful.  Now, onto moisturizer, the Holy Grail of skincare, my knight in shining armour, The CeraVe moisturizer. Honestly, this is the best thing that has ever happened to me, it’s changed the game for me. I have tried many moisturizers in my day but this one is the best because its very light and smooth so when I apply it before makeup, it gives my skin a super glowy look.

Lastly, drink water lol. I know you have heard this a lot but seriously, hydrate. Water tastes great! If you don’t like the taste of water for some reason, add some lemon and mint or add cut up fruits. The more you replenish the fluids in your body, the more glowy and bright your skin will look, giving you the Glass Skin effect.
