This past Saturday, Her Campus GSU joined forces with the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) at Georgia State University and MaverickHill GSU to give back to the community. NSLS is the largest leadership honors society in the nation. While the development of leadership skills is their main focus, NSLS also makes the well-being of the community one of their top priorities.
Last school year, NSLS created a campaign entitled Hearts for Homeless which is an initiative to give back to the homeless community in Downtown Atlanta. NSLS has taken this campaign out into the city three times now and plans to continue it throughout the next semester. During the school year, the society collects numerous donations from local businesses, members of the organization, and others who wish to contribute. The items they collect include personal hygiene items, snacks, winter accessories, etc. Once these items are collected, The Society, along with other organizations that may be involved, bag the items up into small care packages to pass out to the homeless community near Georgia State’s campus in Hurt Park.
If you would like to donate to this campaign, you may contact NSLS at gstatensls@gmail.com. They are accepting the following items: cloth tote bags, appropriate accessories for the season (for winter you may donate hats, gloves, and hand warmers), socks, toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, hairbrushes, lip balm, and anything else that people can make use of. You may also contact NSLS if you or your organization would like to volunteer to pass out items and collect donations
