Her Campus: Why did you choose to come to Georgia State University?

Krystal S: I chose to attend Georgia State University because I wanted to be on a campus where I could experience a lot of diversity along with being in the city. I feel Georgia State is right in the midst of the city, where there is so many opportunities knocking on the door. I wanted to put myself in an environment that could open me up to nontraditional approaches to college life; along with more proactive means to network. Georgia State fit those necessities I felt I needed in a college.

Her Campus: How have you made the transition from high school to college?

Krystal S: The transition from high school to college was not too hard for me; I would have to say the most challenging part is the absolute independence and lack of structure I now have to face. Due to the fact I went to a high school that was academically rigorous and there was a lot of work load; I feel overtly prepared in regards to the amount of work I have now as a freshman in college. Even within the first semester of my transition I see growth in myself overall.

Her Campus: How or what did you feel when you found out you were graduating High School as your class Valedictorian?

Krystal S: When I found out I was graduating high school as my class Valedictorian for the Magnet Program; I was honestly really shocked. The other ladies honored with the titles of Salutatorians and the other Valedictorian were close associates and very close friends of mine; some of them were extremely overwhelmed with joy because that’s what they literally dreamt about. However, that was not me because it was not something I really thought about. Granted I received straight A’s, but because I was reserved and modest in regards to my academia; I did not really put much thought into it. The counselors even said they almost overlooked me; but when I finally let it sink in I was proud of myself because I had always felt I was never recognized for my scholarly efforts like the other recipients.

Her Campus: Where is your favorite place to hang around campus?

Krystal S: One of my favorite places to hang around campus is in my dorm…lol I should probably get out more.

Her Campus: What is the healthiest meal of the day for you?

Krystal S: The healthiest meal of the day for me would probably be breakfast (when I have time in the morning to make it).

Her Campus: What is a normal day’s outfit for you?

Krystal S: Normal day’s outfit for me is cute jeans, a nice shirt/blouse, and probably my flats or boots. In addition to the outfit I always have on gold jewelry because I love gold accessories!

Her Campus: What is your favorite genre of music and why?

Krystal S:  Over the years I have opened my ears to liking a variety of different genres of music.  I do not necessarily have a favorite, but some of the genres I listen to often is Pop, Hip Hop, R&B, and occasionally alternative music. The reason is because I have an appreciation for different sounds and beats, and each genre evokes different feelings inside of me. I do not like to limit myself to one exact thing.

Her Campus: What is your ideal kind of guy?

Krystal S:  My ideal kind of guy is one that is overall just on the same wavelength as me mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. He should be confident, self-assured, and be passionate about something in life. He has to be able to respect me as well as himself. Ideally, my kind of guy is someone that I can grow with; we can both push each other to be better versions of ourselves. Granted I know there is no such thing as a perfect guy, but the kind of guy that is ideal to me is one that can sit on his throne as a King with his Queen right beside him.

Her Campus: As a freshman, there can be a burden to be pulled into the many different kinds of peer pressure on campus. How do you manage to stay true to yourself?

Krystal S: I am for the most part self-assured; I know what in regards to many aspects of my life. Due to the fact I can be stubborn; not much things people say or do can influence me especially when my mind is set. I manage to stay true to myself by staying true to my faith, my beliefs, and overall just beating to my own drums.

Her Campus: If you could spend the day with any celebrity who would it be? Why? And what would you want to do while spending time with them?

Krystal S: I would spend the day with Jessie J because she literally one of my idols. I feel she is so underrated in regards to her vocal excellence. Currently in the mainstream Pop industry I feel she has one of the most dynamic voices and vocal ranges. The time I spent with her for the day would probably be consumed with her voice coaching me and like eating food or something; nothing too extravagant; just chill.

Her Campus: What would you have done if you won the Powerball Jackpot?

Krystal S: If I won the Powerball Jackpot I would first give thanks to my God; then take care of the people I love. With all that money I would literally have the means to make my dreams come true; and TRUST me I have a lot of dreams. I’d probably take some time off of school and travel; educate myself through experiences. Lastly, I would save, invest, and donate; try to still enjoy the simple things in life; stay humble.

Her Campus:  What advice would you have given to yourself 1 year ago?

Krystal S: A year ago at this time I probably would have told myself to not settle for less than I felt I deserved; and not question myself.

Her Campus: Anything in particular you hope to accomplish in 2016?

Krystal S: This year I hope to accomplish all the goals I have set to myself in regards to growth spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and even physically. I also hope to start investing more times in my passions, get a car, and find a job.

Her Campus: What do you hope to accomplish this semester?

Krystal S: This semester I hope to get all A’s; along with branch out more and meet new people; especially people that share similar interest as me like the arts and music.

You have to love what you do, to the point that you cannot imagine doing anything else with your life. You have to sleep, breathe and live this. Otherwise you really need to get out, now.
