Her Campus: What’s your favorite thing about attending a college campus in the heart of the city?

David Sheetz: My favorite thing about attending a college in the heart of the city is that there are so many opportunities. Just by showcasing my videos at an event, I was able to get an internship my first week in the city. Atlanta is a great place to network and build relationships with people who ultimately want to achieve the same goal.

HC: What is something that drives you while you’re pursuing your degree?

DS: I’ve been doing some video work with rapper T.I lately, and being in the same room with him and his team really makes me want to work harder. So being able to be around people who have accomplished so much and are still at it till this day is what drives me while I’m pursuing my degree.

HC: What motivates you every day?

DS: Most days I feel unmotivated and overwhelmed with all that I have going on. Music is what motivates me to keep striving. Artists like Curren$y, Logic, and Ryan Leslie have a category of songs that I like to listen to keep me motivated throughout the day.

HC: Who and/or what is your inspiration?

DS: As of lately, Ryan Leslie is my inspiration for a few reasons. Many don’t know that he graduated from Harvard at 19 years old then he began to take music more serious because he had more time on his hands. He was placed on academic probation a few times because he would skip class to work on music, but despite of that he now owns his own media platform and record label. He has also produced platinum selling records and has been nominated for a few Grammy’s; people still view him as an underdog when he has been creating quality music for years. Even though he started releasing music as a singer, he always wanted to become a rapper, so now he releases rap songs. I relate to him because I myself also create music, and it’s difficult trying to balance school, music, and the video work that I do. I also relate to him because even though he has accomplished so much he doesn’t get the credit he deserves; I feel like I produce quality work and don’t get the credit I deserve either.

HC: What are you doing outside of taking courses at GSU?

DS: Outside of taking courses at GSU, I work with a company called Nightlifelink. We offer photography and video coverage for various clubs and events in Atlanta; I’m currently the in-house videographer at Suite Lounge on Luckie Street. I also create cover art and shoot music videos for local artists in the city. All of these activities are helping me cultivate my skills so when I start releasing music again, all of my graphics and videos will be professional.

HC: What do you hope to see for yourself in the future?

DS:  In the future, I see myself owning my own record label or production company. I’ve been doing everything on my own since high school. I started producing, recording, and shooting videos since 2010, now that my skills are up to par with people who are in the industry, I’ve been able to meet and work with various celebrities.

HC: What’s a fun fact about you?

DS: I LOVE pizza.

HC: What do you look for in a significant other?

DS: I mainly look for a mature, strong-minded, educated, understanding, compassionate, able to take a joke, and clean individual.

HC: What is your favorite quote?

DS: “You will give the people of Earth an ideal to strive towards. They will race behind you, they will stumble, they will fall. But in time, they will join you in the sun. In time, you will help them accomplish wonders. – Jor El in Man of Steel (2013)

HC: What makes you who you are?

DS: Everything I’ve experienced in life so far makes me who I am. From the books I have read, to the shows I’ve watched, even the schools I attended. The influences I’ve allowed my parents, friends, authority figures, and the media to have on me is also what makes me who I am. I’m the product of the values, principles and ethics I have chosen for myself.
