The Best Things About Coming Home from College

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Gonzaga chapter.

It’s that time of the school year when we’ve all been on campus for what already seems like forever, and some of us have started to make trips back home. Meanwhile, the rest of us are dreaming of opening the front door of the houses we grew up in and basking in the glory of being home. So, with that in mind, here are some of my favorite things about coming home from college:

1. Pets

Your dog just attacks you with love as soon as you walked in the door and your cat has been purring on top of you for the last two hours – but no one’s going to hear you complaining!

2. Home-Cooked Meals

The COG’s undercooked mystery meat and oddly uneven baked potatoes are no more. Your mom’s cooking is seriously food for the soul.

3. Sleeping in your own bed

The evil, blue mattress sitting in your college dorm can no longer make you wake up feeling like you’ve been hit by a truck. Your back can finally be cradled in the sweet relief of your very own mattress.

4. Shopping

Your mom is convinced that no matter how many clothes you have, you’ll never be warm enough. But who’s going to say no to a little shopping spree?

5. Not having to wonder who touched your laundry

Leaving behind the feeling of yes, someone moved my laundry. Yes, someone touched my freaking underwear. And feeling #blessed.

6. Showering without shower shoes

The flip-flop days are behind you! You can actually look down at the shower floor and not physically gag at the sight of a month’s worth of hair clogging the drain.

7. Mom (duh!)

But by far, the best part is hugging your mom and being reminded that, no matter what, someone will always love you.

We are less than a month away, Zags! Work hard and we will be home soon!
