Since both IHOP and Waffle House hit the scene in the 50’s, the debate as to who’s America’s number 1 breakfast has been ongoing. When it comes to Waffle House or IHOP, there are usually two main points of debate: atmosphere and food quality.

Some argue that the ambience of Waffle House is far from pleasing. Their locations tend to be small and not the cleanest. Those who are for the atmosphere might argue that it’s a place that feels comfortable and like community.

When it comes to food, the main argument here is that IHOP has a much bigger selection to choose from and more than just the same old things you see all the time on Waffle House’s menu. Supporters of the waffle empire usually come to its defense claiming even though IHOP has more options, the food just doesn’t taste as good.

As for me, I’m partial. I’m a southern girl who absolutely LOVES her Waffle House, however I’m also a girl who will eat pancakes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!  Now before you go crucifying me for straddling the fence, let me explain!

Reason 1: If I can trust the food, atmosphere isn’t that important

Listen, I’ve been eating at Waffle House for yearssss and I’ve never had an incident where there food has made me feel anything but good! The cleanliness of Waffle House that everyone is so quick to point out in this argument just isn’t anything to make me deter from eating there.

Now granted, if I do want somewhere that I can just go to sit and relax IHOP would be my decision.

Reason 2: Waffle House and IHOP fix two totally different cravings for me.

If I want a good omelette and pancakes then I’ll go to IHOP! If I want a bomb patty melt and hash browns, Waffle House it is !

I understand how people enjoy having more options at IHOP, but at the same time Waffle House knows what they’re good at and they’re sticking to it. For someone like me who pretty much orders the same thing every single time, it really just depends on what kind of mood I’m in.

Reason 3: I just can’t make a decision on who’s better !

I just find it hard to compare restaurants that specialize in different things. One literally is about pancakes and the other waffles. How can anyone possibly decide ???

I think it would be more rational to compare places like IHOP and Denny’s or Huddle House and Waffle House. You catch my drift?

Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t think I’ll ever be able to fully choose one over the other. Which is your fave?
