Her Campus Logo Her Campus Logo
This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Georgetown chapter.

By now, I have become accustomed to the squished eyebrows and pointed fingers directed toward the piece of metal that hangs delicately from my neck spelling out my initials. An everyday staple of my wardrobe, I put on my monogram necklace without thinking twice about it. Onlookers, specifically here on Georgetown’s campus, often question what my necklace “means.” It is simply three letters, symbolic of the name that they represent. Why I wear them around my neck, I could not tell you. I can tell you that I am a person of habit, and my Southern heritage has guided me towards the religion of putting my initials on everything. It might come across as a tad egotistical, but I like to think of it as an artistic expression and a cute way of marking my stuff so that I can easily pick out the culprits who might steal my stuff from the laundry machines. My towels are monogrammed. My sheets are monogrammed. My pillows are monogrammed. My makeup bags are monogrammed. And yes, I have a large, mirror-like monogram hanging above my desk. I am, in other words, on monogram overload. Incorporating your initials into your everyday wardrobe in subtle ways is certainly becoming a trend. Here are my top five ways to incorporate your personal logo into your everyday life, even if you aren’t a Southern diva like myself.

The Jewels- these delicate emblems are simple and sweet at the time. They are also a great layering piece that can be paired with other necklaces and something you can throw on with any outfit. These brightly colored cuffs from C Wonder will add a bit of punch to the daily stack of bracelets on your arms.

The Clutch- A solid clutch is a basic  staple that every girl should have. Adding your initials, as Rebecca Minkoff is so fabulously doing now, makes the ultimate accessory just that much more unique and personable.

The Planner- In the age of iPhones, planners have become obsolete. MayBooks transform something blah into a chic accessory, something you want to keep out on your desk for passersby to observe. Use it to keep your life together in every meaning of the phrase. When you are stressed about the loads of work that you have to get done by tomorrow, just looking at the cover will hopefully make the inside of the library look a little less grim.

The Shirt- I love the idea of wearing your initials on a shirt or light sweater. Not too large to the point where it is obnoxious, but noticeable enough. It can make any outfit look put-together and would look adorable dressed down with jean shorts or dressed up with a sleek look, as Blair rocks here.

The Tote- There are few things that I love more than my brown leather tote from Madewell. I use it to hold books for class, my water bottle for the gym, my magazines for the airplane and all my other random objects every day of the week. Now that I have had it for a while, the leather has become worn-in, and the bag has only gotten better with the passage of time. Unfortunately, everyone seems to have the same passion for these bags as I do, and they seem to be on everyone’s shoulders around campus. Personalize the bag in order to stand out.
