#GTownTrending: Whitney and the Grammys

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Georgetown chapter.

This week was pretty intense. Not only did we lost in OT to Syracuse but many of us were still struggling to get over the Super Bowl. Personally, I’m suffering from the realization that I probably will never get to salsa dance with Victor Cruz in my lifetime. But a girl can dream. On a somber note, the tragic death of iconic songbird Whitney Houston on Saturday was this week’s most trended topic. Statuses from girls and guys have sprung up all over Facebook, expressing our shared grief over the loss of such a talented individual. I’d therefore like to start off this week with quite possibly the best pick-me-up/get-ready-to-with-your friends song, Whitney’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eH3giaIzONA&ob=av2n

Whitney also gave one of the most riveting performances of the National Anthem I think I’ve ever heard. I’m not too sure if I like the whole white jump suit, white head band combo look she’s rocking but Whitney’s pipes at the 1991 Super Bowl cannot be matched: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jeUINzHK9o

This Sunday was also the Grammy Awards. If you have not seen Nicki Minaj’s red carpet outfit, STOP, take a deep breathe and slowly click on this link: http://socialitelife.com/nicki-minaj-grammy-awards-2012-photos-02-2012. While I love “Super Bass” and her duet “Knock Out” with Lil Wayne has gotten me through many workouts, I am simply at a loss for words here. Really Nicki?

Besides Jennifer Hudson’s heartfelt tribute to Whitney with her rendition of “I Will Always Love You,” (watch the vid here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-mMDIbKqgQ) the biggest story of the night was the musical goddess Adele. She stole the show! When I heard she needed throat surgery I nearly died but thankfully our girl is back and sounding (and looking) better than ever! She won top honors including Record of the Year! Watch her incredible performance of the ultimate chick rocker “Rolling in the Deep” here: http://justjared.buzznet.com/2012/02/12/adeles-grammy-performance-watch-now/.

Her acceptance speech is also the cutest, most genuine thing I’ve watched and if you already loved her, this video will only confirm your obsession. She is the same age as some of us here at college and really manages to carry herself with such an adorable sense of class and humility. http://perezhilton.com/tv/Grammys_2012_Adeles_Acceptance_Speech_For_Record_of_the_Year/?id=2c9b7b5a7c7a1&autoplay=true

And for the tweet of the week I just couldn’t help myself but bring us again to ShitGirlsSay. It’s just so spot on: shitgirlssayShit Girls Say I’m shedding.
