A Day in the Life: National Mall and Dupont

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Georgetown chapter.

Recently I’ve taken advantage of the greatness that is Capitol Bikeshare. You spend $7
and get a 24 hour membership to bike around the city, and if you do it right (switch in for
a new bike every 30 minutes), you pay no additional fees. I’ve realized that everyone
(including me) talks about how they never get out of Georgetown, and how they wished
that changed. Honestly, with or without a bike, its simple! You can get on the metro,
walk, take the bus, etc. This right here is my foolproof guide to some of the best of DC
in a day.

1. Begin by grabbing a Capital Bike outside the maingates. Proceed to bike all the way
down to Wisconsin Ave, (be careful!!) and trade in your bikes.

2. From here, go down to the Waterfront and head over to the Lincoln Memorial. Once
you’re there, you can easily get to the rest of the monuments. If you haven’t seen the
MLK Memorial yet, you need to.

3. Now, I’m guessing you may be hungry…If you’re leaving the monuments, head over
to Sweetgreen in Dupont, or Shake Shack if you’re craving something a little more
substantial (get the cheese fries, I swear they are worth it.)

4. Explore Dupont a bit.. Try out some of the coffee places, or if you prefer Starbucks,
that’s always trustworthy (holiday cups, anyone?). Stop by Kramers Books if you
have a chance!

5. Get back on your bike and head back down M Street. Stop at Baked & Wired on your
way back.. It’s definitely underrated, so if you want something delicious try the
Unporked Elvis or one of their pumpkin cupcakes!

6. If you have time pop into Madewell, where you can always get a 15% Student
Discount. As of now until November 20th, you’ll get 25% of sweaters, boots, and cold-
weather accessories!!
