8 Reasons Why You Should Call Your Mom Right Now

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Georgetown chapter.

So it’s been what, five weeks of college now? And among all the parties, unreasonable piles of reading, roomie troubles (of which I actually have none), laundry struggles, treks to Yates against your will, absurdly long Leo’s lines, and boatloads of names you will never remember, you may not have given your mother the play-by-play that she is eagerly waiting for. You should call her because…

1. Firstly, and most importantly, she’s always on your side. She will never, ever say:

2. She will always give you what you need to succeed. Whether it comes in the form of advice, a listening ear, or a really bomb care package.

3. She won’t judge you for crying on the phone for an hour about the paper that you haven’t even looked at yet while simultaneously stuffing Cheez-Its in your mouth.

4. She genuinely cares.

5. She always wants to hear about your life. About the important things, the little things, the big things, and the things that no one else will bother listening to.

6. She’s absolutely hilarious. And when you’re swamped with papers, readings, homework sets, and loads of laundry you don’t know how to do, your mom will at least give you a laugh to take off the stress.

7. You can low key hint what you want her to send you in the mail.

8. You will never, ever, be too old to need your mom. At age 40, I (and probably everyone else) will be calling my mom asking what temperature to cook something, what business casual actually means, or what it means when this guy goes, “I don’t know what I want.”

So call her, update her, and remind her that you couldn’t have gotten here without her. She will be thrilled by your excitement, living out her college days vicariously through you. And, most of all, she deserves to know that among all the fun you’re having at school, you truly miss her the most.
