It sure has been a year, hasn’t it? As the semester winds down, let’s hear what some of our Geneseo contributors are excited for!

Margaux Carmel

I’m so excited to have time for myself again! Now that I’m graduating and taking a gap year before pursuing my graduate degree, I have absolutely nothing to do over the summer except go to work. I don’t think I’ve had that much free time since my freshman year of high school! I’m planning on doing lots of reading, picking knitting back up, and hanging out with my best friends. This summer will be one of my favorites to be sure!

Mia Serritella

Ahh I’m looking forward to so much! I always go into summer wide-eyed and giddy, and this year is no different. I’m doing a summer program (online) at RIT with some great people that I’m really excited for, though it’s probably also going to kick my a**. And then when I’m not doing that I’ll be having the time of my life regressing to my adolescent self as I spend my nights playing video games, seeing my friends (in a social distant manner), watching the new “Rick & Morty” season, gardening, reading books and—what I’m looking forward to most of all—putting back the recliner on my couch and melting into the leather. I don’t want to know a single thing during this time! No one speak to me! I don’t exist!

Nina Fichera

I have a couple of things I’m looking forward to, but at the top of my list is seeing my friends again. Since we’re all fully vaccinated, that means I’ll finally get to hug them! I was so used to hugging them every day of senior year that going without for over a year has been literal torture. One of my best friends and I are going to try to get together the first week we’re both back, so hopefully I’ll be greeted with one of her amazing hugs! Apart from that, I’m looking forward to working on a fanfic I’m writing with one of my friends and learning kpop dances with my mom! Especially the latter, it’s going to be so much fun since we usually play Just Dance together as a kind of workout, so I think it’ll be great!

I am such a homebody and I cannot wait to be back home with my family after this crazy semester. Each year my sister and I make a little yearly bucket list and I’m looking forward to being able to go on some adventures and check off some things from the list. On top of that, I’ll be teaching private swim lessons which I’m super excited about because it will be my first time working for myself and being able to make my own schedule! I can’t wait to be able to enjoy the nice sunny days.

Margaux (they/them) is a senior Women and Gender Studies major at SUNY Geneseo. Outside of Her Campus, they work at Geneseo's Office of Diversity and Equity, is on the executive board of Pride Alliance, and is an active Safe Zone trainer. They love to write about diversity, mental health, and environmentalism, with the occasional goofy topic or two (or five). Margaux hopes to someday be the coolest gender studies professor you will ever have.
Mia graduated from SUNY Geneseo in the spring of 2022 after majoring in communication and minoring in cognitive science. When she was not chained to her schoolwork she enjoyed embroidering the mouse from Bear in the Big Blue House, playing the same three songs on the guitar, and prototyping inventions that didn't see the outside of her room.
Nina Fichera is the Campus Correspondent for Her Campus at Geneseo. She oversees meetings and writes about a variety of topics, such as music (especially K-Pop and Taylor Swift), her experiences as a hopeless romantic, what it's like for her as a writer, and other entertainment-based articles. Outside of Her Campus, Nina is currently a senior with a double major in English (with a Creative Writing concentration) and Adolescent Education (with an English concentration) as well as a minor in Human Development. She was the head fiction editor for the SUNY magazine Gandy Dancer in Spring 2023. In her free time, Nina adores writing to her heart's content, usually in the realm of fiction and fanfiction. She also loves cross-stitch, spending time with her friends, learning K-Pop dances, and reading.
