Ok, so, I’ll be the first to admit that you have probably seen at least one of the movies on this list. But if you are a big rom-com fan like I am and are sick of watching the same classic 10 movies you’ve seen before, I might be able to provide you with a few fresh flicks to watch during February, or as I like to call it, the month of love.
- Down With Love
-
Down With Love is my favorite rom-com of all time. It stars Renee Zellweger and Ewan McGregor and is one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen. It is from the early 2000s, so it has that classic rom-com vibe that we all know and love, but simultaneously brings something fresh to the genre. If you only watch one movie on this list please let it be this one!
- Rye Lane
-
Rye Lane is a sweet story about two people struggling with serious breakups who meet at an art show and end up spending the entire day together. They help each other confront their problems and fears and grow a strong relationship with one another in the process.
- Plus one
-
This movie is about two single friends surrounded by people getting married. They commiserate over how many weddings they have to go to alone over the summer and decide to be each other’s plus one to every wedding they’re invited to. It is a fun and more modern movie that gives that same classic 90s-2000s rom-com feeling that we all love.
- Set it up
-
This is a movie that more people may have seen, but if you haven’t it’s definitely worth a watch. It is about two overworked assistants to two different bosses who conspire to get their bosses together so that they will each be able to work less. It is a little bit enemies to lovers, and in my opinion one of the best rom-coms in recent years.
- palm springs
-
Palm Springs is a rom-com with a twist: they’re stuck in a time loop. We’ve seen movies like this before, but this movie brings a fresh take to it and is hilarious and charming. If you haven’t seen it before or just haven’t seen it in a while, definitely give it a watch.
- honorable mentions
-
Ok, so I know I said only 5 and I am sticking to that, but here are some rapid-fire recommendations that you’ve probably seen but if you haven’t you need to check them out! 27 Dresses, Monte Carlo, Map of Tiny Perfect Things (another time loop movie), The Ugly Truth, Music and Lyrics, John Tucker Must Die, and finally, About Time.
I hope some of these suggestions are new to you, and that you will maybe even find a new favorite rom-com to watch endlessly. Happy Valentine’s Day, and have a happy rom-com watch party!
