“Treat Yo Self” Ideas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GCSU chapter.

Tuesday, the day after the always dreaded Monday, but the day before you can internally yell “Hump Dayyyy”. No longer is Tuesday just a day of the week, lost in the shuffle of days, but it is now known for treating yourself, aka “Treat Yo Self Tuesdays”. There is some good alliteration for you. Lets face it, we all need to pamper ourselves every once in a while to rejuvinate, re-charge and maintain our sanity during a crazy week or period in our lives.  However, you can treat yourself any day of the week. It is completley socially acceptable to make yourself your own “Treat Yo Self [insert your fav day]” if you like routine or switch it up every week with a different day if you are more spontaneous. All of these “treat yo self” ideas can be done whenever you want! These ideas are simple and always do good for the soul.

Here are my 4 “Treat Yo Self” Ideas:

1. Dinner + Netflix Binge

Cooking can be relaxing and eating dinner while watching a good episode, or movie can be just what you need to get ready for a big day you have coming up, or after a long week on a Friday night. For dinner, I recommend making a comfort food type of meal (go as healthy or southern as you please) and for Netflix, I recommend watching a comedy, or any light hearted entertainment to get you in a happy mood.

2. Coffee + Window Shopping (Splurge and actually go shopping if you have the cash flow)

Grab a coffee from your favorite place and go walk around and window shop in your favorite stores. Personally, I recommend going into a Bath & Body Works type of store, or an Antique/Home Good place. There is something about those places that calms you down and gives you a sense of peacefulness. If you don’t like coffee go buy a drink at Sonic, they have plenty of flavors and choices to choose from. If you are not looking for alone time, grab your best gal pal and take advantage of the opportunity to catch up with one another and have a good life chat.

P.S. Don’t be like this person below and have your “treat yo self” day go horribly wrong.

3. Go on an A.D.V.E.N.T.U.R.E

Sometimes all you need is a new place and some new faces. Go to Macon, Madison, Athens, or if you are up for a longer drive, go to Atlanta or Savannah. Explore these beautiful and fun towns. Pick a free day during your week, or on the weekend and hit the road with some pals or your SO. Many of these towns have a much better food scene than Milly (*Gasp*) and more shopping/entertainment options if you are bored of your usual routines. Whether you want to plan the details of your big day out, or be more spontaneous, these towns and cities will not disappoint and can help settle your mind.

4. Saved the best for last, WAIT FOR IT, Take a nap + a long shower, or bubble bath. I know this is not an idea you were thinking of but sometimes the best things for you or most enjoyable are simple and not grand in nature. If you are low on funds or just want some me time, this is perfect for you. Now, like myself, not everyone is a good napper. I perfer to rest my eyes (and yes, I really mean just resting my eyes). After you do this, go take a nice, long shower, or get yourself some bath salts or bath bombs and take a bubble bath. I like to read or play music, but this is optional, sometimes peace and quiet is great too. You will feel more relaxed and back your old self after you do this spa combination.

Now, there is an old Irish proverb about a good laugh and a long sleep, and I do believe a good laugh and sense of humor is key to getting through life, but add a long bath or shower and you have the complete package.

Hope you guys try out these ideas and feel better because of them!
