Kaleb Tillman: That Guy in the Pink Shirt

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GCSU chapter.

Kaleb Tillman, 19, is a mass communications major, a radio deejay, a worship leader, and a bit of a romantic. He’s certainly busy, but he doesn’t seem to be the least bit bogged down by all this activity. On the contrary, he’s relaxed, upbeat, and easygoing when I meet him for our interview.

The first thing most people notice about Kaleb is his penchant for wearing hot pink tee shirts. The most notable item in his collection? His “Georgia College Mom” shirt. It is worth mentioning here that Kaleb is neither a woman nor a mother of a student at Georgia College.

When I mention what I plan to title this article, Kaleb laughs. “‘That Guy in the Pink Shirt’? I get that a lot… People do come up to me and say, ‘Hi, I see you in that pink shirt.’” Sitting across the table from him at Mellow Mushroom, it’s hard not to be blinded by the vibrant shirt. If he weren’t so nice, I don’t think I’d be able to tolerate the optical assault. “By the way,” he says, “you’re looking beautiful tonight.” See what I mean?

In addition to being recognized for wearing his pink shirt, Kaleb is also known for leading worship at the Wesley Foundation. He plays the guitar and sings during leadership prayer. He also serves as part of the worship team during the Wednesday night gathering. In spite of his talents, what stands out most prominently is his love for Jesus Christ. It’s clear that he believes every word that he sings. When he worships God, he is sincere. “There’s nothing I’m doing right now that’s me completely,” says Kaleb. “It’s a God thing. Even the pink shirt.” He smiles. “If it’s making people’s day better, then it’s a good thing.”

Besides worship, Kaleb is involved in several other areas of music. He is currently hosting “The Needle,” a Tuesday night radio show. It’s something he’s very passionate about. “Next week is instrumental week on the show,” he says. “It’s going to be great—no, make that fantastic.” You can listen to his show Tuesday nights at 8:30 on 95.3 in Milledgeville, via gcsuradio.com, or through the Tune In app. Kaleb also has his own Soundcloud account, where he posts songs he’s written. Check it out here.

Like most young men, Kaleb has high expectations for his future. His primary ambition is to become a youth minister, followed by a radio host on a big-time network. He’s still got two years left of college, and he aims to make them count. For this talented musician, almost anything seems possible.
