Emily Harper: Enthusiastic and Friendly

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GCSU chapter.

What is your year?

Senior

Major?

Mathematics concentrating in Education/Theater

Hometown?

Suwanee, Georgia

Are you involved in any clubs or organizations?

I am involved in Alpha Psi Omega (APO) the honors theater society. I am also a volunteer at the Boys and Girls Club.

What career are you planning on after graduation?

A high school math and theater teacher.

What inspires you the most?

Collaboration with others to create something wonderful, whether it be a production or a lesson plan.

How would you describe your style?

I’m guessing clothing? Vintage items, wide belts, bellow knee skirts, POLKA DOTS.

What’s the best advice you could give anyone on how to enjoy college?

I enjoy it by scheduling. I get all of my responsibilities done or I know when I plan to do them. That way, when I go out with my friends I’m not worrying if there is anything I need to do. Also, hang on to your friends, go out, don’t be afraid to meet new people or go on adventures. Stress can pile on very quickly and sometimes you need a little freedom.

What are some of your hobbies?

I love working with power tools. Give me an air staple gun or a band saw and I am a happy woman. I also love writing short stories and I find difficulty getting myself away from a good book.

What’s your favorite travel destination? When did you go?

New York. Some of my best travel memories are there. I went there for a high school graduation and recently for my 21st birthday with my mom, aunt, cousin, and two baby cousins.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Reading! Or video games. Although, I get a little too into Skyrim sometimes…

What has been your most enlightening experience in college? What will you take away from your college experience?

Well as a Senior I can confidently say there have been many “ah ha!” moments. The most altering have been this year though. I am directing a scene this semester for my Directing class taught by Amy Penny, and there has been a mountain of responsibilities put on me, and while they have been stressful, all the insecurities about my talents have been pushed aside, because I don’t have time for them and I can see every decision I make create something beautiful. Everything is coming together and even though I’m staying for a 5th year to complete my double major, this year will probably be my favorite.

I frequent social media sites and adore corgis. People say I'm addicted to the internet. (It's kinda true.) I'm a graduate of GCSU.
