Dr. Bethany Loushine Douglas: GC’s First Elite Runner

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GCSU chapter.

Dr. Bethany Loushine Douglas is the first elite runner in Georgia College Women’s Cross Country History. She graduated in 2004 after earning three career victories in 2001-2003 which caused Georgia College to be ranked in the top half of the Peach Belt Conference for the first time in history.  She set the college’s 5K record with a time of 19:44. Bethany held this title for eight years.

After graduating with a degree in chemistry, Bethany attended the dental school at the Medical College of Georgia. She specialized in Endodontics which is a type of dentist who specializes in working with the soft inner tissue of the teeth.  Bethany currently practices her dentistry in Jacksonville, Florida where she resides with her husband and two dogs.

In an interview with Georgia College’s Connection Magazine, Bethany was asked what attracted her to Georgia College. She replied, “I was immediately attracted to the beautiful southern-style front campus.” She goes on to say that she also loved the laid back style of the cross country program. When Bethany was asked what her favorite place on campus, she said, “Saga [The Max] stands out as a very special place during my college experience. Whether it was meeting up with old friends and making new ones during lunch or attending the midnight pancake event during exam week, I have some of my fondest college memories there.”

Bethany truly loves the Georgia College cross country team and the campus. We can be proud to call her a great alumni.
