Charis Andrews: Artistic Leader

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GCSU chapter.

Sophomore Charis Andrews can be found in many places around campus. You will see her walking around waving at friends, starting up new organizations, or outside the MSU enjoying some delicious Chic Fil A. While she keeps busy often, she always makes time for her friends. When I wanted to talk to Charis, I just walked into our dorm room in Bell. While she may be my roommate, Charis does some pretty awesome things around campus. This interview is a result of Charis and me sitting on our couch on a Thursday night.

What are some organizations that you are involved with on campus?

I’m currently working on getting the RSO Art Stop for Kids back up. I’m also involved with BCM, the Honors Program, Eta Sigma Alpha, Alpha Lambda Delta, and Bobcats Against Hunger.

Tell me more about Art Stop for Kids.

Art Stop for Kids is an RSO at Georgia College that is for Education majors, Art majors, or anyone interested in arts and crafts or working with children. One Saturday a month we will be going to an elementary school in the Baldwin County area and doing arts and crafts with underprivileged children. This student organization actually already existed, but it has been on hiatus since 2011. We’re very excited to get it started back up this year.

What is the most challenging thing you are going to face this semester?

Personally as a Pre-Early Childhood Education major, I will be applying to the cohort soon, so that is probably the most challenging thing I am going to face. The cohort is very competitive because is there many worthy applicants and as I want to teach Kindergarten, it is essential that I get into the cohort because it offers both hands on experience and knowledge that you can’t get anywhere else.

You currently have a thriving canvas art business. Is painting still a hobby for you or by doing it as a job does that make it more work rather than a hobby?

It’s still a hobby and I do enjoy painting things for people when I take orders. I still do it for pleasure. Even when I’m filling orders for people it’s still fun and a great way to procrastinate doing homework.

What is your favorite quote?
