Tired, overwhelmed, and ready to get out of here for a little while. I have just described every college student in the spring semester of college. For some reason, the spring semester  feels like the longest semester ever due to way fewer breaks. In the fall, we all get a fall break, thanksgiving, and winter holiday. All together, this adds up to several weeks of break, and then we get to the spring. Spring semester has maybe two breaks, one being a full week, and the other is Easter break, which is a weekend at best.

Another reason the spring semester is incredibly hard is that it’s so difficult to sit in hour-long classes when the weather finally starts to warm up. We spend the entire winter in a dreary, cold, and dark atmosphere. Then it’s springtime and we’re stuck in classes. I know that for me when spring rolls around, I’m ready to sit outside for hours and finally enjoy the sunshine. In order to get through those last couple of weeks of school, I compiled a list of a few tips and tricks to persevere through the spring slump.

Tip #1: Get outside!

When you aren’t in class, go outside! Take a Furman lake walk, go sit on the benches, or go have a picnic with some friends. I know I always love sitting outside to even do something as boring as homework. I love having the sunshine, hearing the birds sing, and just enjoying something outside of the four walls of the classroom.

Tip #2: Do something purely for yourself!

I’ve been student teaching and have been so busy this semester. When my school went on spring break, I decided to take myself on a downtown date. I took a few hours to shop, walk downtown, and enjoy some sweet treats at River Street Sweets.

Tip #3: Create a new and exciting playlist to do your homework to!

When I do homework, I have to have some sort of music or show on in the background. Listening to the same playlist or watching the same show can get boring quickly. Create your own or ask your friends for some new songs and show suggestions. You can also check out this list of fun playlists! I’m 100% with you that the spring semester seems never-ending, but keep working! You’ve worked this hard to get where you are today, so don’t let that work go to waste. “You are good enough to be everything you want to be” -Winston (New Girl)
