Being a part of the Itty Bitty Titty Committee

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Furman chapter.

Puberty, what a horrible time in our lives. However, I was so excited for one thing, I could finally have boobs! *insert laughter track.* My body had very different plans. After years of getting acne, getting taller, and getting bigger feet, my boobs stayed the same. I was (and am) the smallest size that you can be; I’m an A cup, which is essentially non-existent.

For a long time, I was so unhappy with how small my boobs were. All of my friends had way bigger boobs than I did, which made me feel like a prepubescent teenage boy. I couldn’t find any tops that didn’t swallow my chest. I typically had to body tape my lower-cut shirts to my chest so that people couldn’t see straight through my shirt when I bent over. I had nothing to hold the shirt in place, so body tape did the job!

Now, the worst part of having small boobs is not finding any cute bras in my size. On a fun trip to Target recently, I decided to update my bras. Unfortunately, all I found were quite possible the most plain bras I have ever seen or bras that were so padded, I would probably be a DD. While I appreciate the effort of bra companies trying to make my boobs bigger, I actually like having small boobs.

While it did take me forever to accept and eventually love my small boobs, I can finally say I am really happy with the size that I am. I never have to consider that the super cute bralette may not fit me, or how that jacket will fit my boobs, or if my buttons on my top will pop during the day. The journey of self-love is hard, whether your boobs are big, small, or just-right. It takes a lot of patience with yourself and knowing what fits your body best to make you feel confident. If you prefer the bralettes or your average Hanes bra, or a padded bra, it shouldn’t matter to anyone but you! You need to know what makes you feel best.
