Your Zodiac Sign as Your Favorite Holiday Tradition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Aquarius (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18): Secret Santa

Aquariuses are known for focusing on trying to constantly improve the world around them, and by doing so they forget to focus on friends and family, giving them the reputation of being distant in relationships. They have to be reminded that reform and progress start at a smaller level where empathy and compassion are needed wherever possible. So Aquariuses, we know you don’t like to show too much emotion—that’s why Secret Santa is the perfect holiday tradition for you! You don’t have to worry about being sentimental because thankfully, the gifts are anonymous. Secret Santa also allows you the freedom to get any gift you want and someone in the room is bound to like it. We know how important freedom and independence are to you.

Lastly, we understand that an Aquarius thrives on shock value, so don’t be too surprised if you open up a gift containing an expensive watch or maybe even a handle of vodka. Chances are, there’s an Aquarius in the room.

Pisces (Feb. 19 – Mar. 20): Watching Every Christmas Movie Known to Man

A lot of people refer to Pisces as the emotional ones, due to the fact that they’re known as being the most empathetic and compassionate creatures of the astrological wheel. It is easy for a Pisces to become consumed by emotions, and they thrive from shared experiences of music and romance, so it only makes sense that their holiday tradition is watching Christmas movies. Pisces will bring the cookies—expect an abundance of tissues, too. If you notice your friend is crying in the first 10 minutes of Elf, let them be. They’re probably a Pisces.

Aries (Mar. 21- Apr. 19): Black Friday Shopping

Aries love to be number one and are known for being passionate, ambitious and confident leaders. They aren’t afraid of any challenges and love diving head first into any conflict, confident that they’re going to be coming out a winner. Their determination is relentless as they like things to completed quickly, not caring if their hands get a little dirty along the way. Based on these character traits, Black Friday Shopping is the holiday tradition for Aries. Oh no, there’s only one large flat screen for an incredible deal at Best Buy? If you feel a tug on the other end of the box, it’s probably an Aries. If I were you, I’d drop the box. There are other deals elsewhere.

Taurus (April 20 – May 20): Family Bonfire

Taurus is a sign known for enjoying a relaxing scene usually in a rural or countryside environment. They love to be surrounded by soft sounds and calming aromas while also enjoying rich flavors. Tauruses are also the embodiment of luxury and they aren’t afraid to embrace their “boujee” side. Due to these traits, I’d say that the holiday tradition of family bonfires is what a Taurus craves most. They can enjoy the nature around them while also indulging in s’mores and hot, decadent drinks. And if you see a gold chalice filled to the brim with hot chocolate imported from the Swiss Alps, my guess is that cup belongs to a Taurus.

Gemini (May 21 – Jun. 20): Santa Claus

Geminis are known for constantly trying to get 12 things done all at the same time. Even though it can be rather chaotic, they love juggling a variation of friend groups, careers and projects. They’re social butterflies that simply do it all and aren’t afraid to have four different plans in one evening. Communication is a huge deal to them and they can talk your ear off any place at any time. For these reasons, I believe a Gemini would make a wonderful Santa Claus. He spends his evening hopping to millions of houses and even comes to visit before the holidays to chat with people about what they want for Christmas. Similar to Santa, he’s constantly looking forward to the future—even though there’s Christmas this year, he’s already thinking about the next five years as well!

Cancer (Jun. 21 – Jul. 22): The Grinch

Cancers can walk into a room and immediately sense the energy. They’re extremely sensitive to the environment around them and are known for also being highly self-protective. Often, Cancers are perceived as cold and distant at first, but if you get to know them, they’re gentle and full of compassion. Based on these traits, I believe the Grinch would be a Cancer. He comes off as grumpy and rude; however, he just needs to be surrounded by love and a little bit of Christmas spirit and I promise you his heart will grow three sizes in one day, just like a Cancer.

Leo (July 23- August 22): The Star on Top of the Christmas Tree

I’m sure we all know about Leos, they give us no choice, but I’ll give you a little background on them anyway. Leos love to bask in the spotlight, thriving off attention and passion. Leos are natural born leaders who aren’t afraid to put on a show. As much as they love attention, they also love to represent loyalty, stability and consistency. Based on these traits, it’s only fitting for a Leo to be at the top of the Christmas tree. They have all the spotlight that they need up there while also reminding people that they’ll always be there for their peers, especially for many Christmases to come. Now that’s one loyal star.

Virgo (Aug. 23 – Sep. 22): Gingerbread House

Virgos are known for being logical and practical, making sure that everything’s perfect but also never being afraid to improve skills through practice and determination. Virgos are kind and supportive friends, assisting others on a practical level. Based on these traits, Virgos would make excellent gingerbread houses. They would make the absolute picture-perfect, Martha Stewart-esque gingerbread house. The house would, of course, be delicious and beautiful; however, it would also be built in a practical manner, making sure every gingerbread beam supporting that gingerbread house is strong enough to shelter plenty of gingerbread friends. Didn’t think gingerbread housing was that intense, did ya? Well then, you’re probably not a Virgo.

Libra (Sep. 23- Oct. 22): Decorating the Christmas Tree

Libras are individuals who absolutely need balance and harmony. Their lifestyle is based on symmetry where they strive to create equilibrium in all areas of life. They’re the embodiment of love, beauty and money where they adore high art and connoisseurship. Creating a stunning and creative environment that’s able to reflect the Libra’s personality and style is a definite must. Due to these traits, I think putting the Libra in charge of decorating the Christmas Tree would be a smart move, especially if you’re looking to impress. Libras will break out their ornament collection, which they collected over many years, and make sure your Christmas tree looks like it belongs in a museum. Picasso would be proud!

Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21):  Home Alone Syndrome

Courtesy: Capitol Greeneville

Scorpios are known for being compared to a game of chess: they know what they want, and they don’t mind playing a long game to get it. They’re always several steps ahead of their opponent, striking when least expected. Based on these traits, I think Scorpios have been preparing for a Home Alone scenario ever since the movie came out. If robbers ever stepped foot on their property, then they better be prepared for some iced stairs and tarantulas because a Scorpio has been waiting their entire childhood for this moment!

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21): The Drunk Uncle

Courtesy: Fatherly

Sagittarius is a sign known for being an amazing story-teller. They’ve traveled to every corner of the world, making their collection of stories simply unbeatable. They can light up any room with their wonderful sense of humor and infectious laughter. They’re the comedians of the zodiacs and easily attract friends and lovers with their sense of humor. Based on these traits, I think a Sagittarius would make a great drunk uncle. They are the uncle (or aunt, or related family member) that shows up to every holiday function and the person everyone looks forward to seeing. They tell hilarious stories to the room, spilling their whiskey here and there, creating smiles and laughter into every room they enter. We all have em’ and we all love em’. Three cheers for the drunk uncles!

Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 19): Snowball Fights

Capricorns are known for tapping into their inner courage in order to overcome any obstacles that stand between them and their long-term goals. They don’t let anything distract them from achieving what they strive for. Their undying focus is often perceived as cold and unemotional. Since Capricorns have already endured hardships, they’re said to age backward where they become youthful, playful and optimistic as they age. Snowball fights are the perfect holiday tradition for Capricorns. They’re able to create a snow fort for the long battle ahead of them and while their mission is to win, they aren’t afraid to have a little fun… after they win, of course!
