Why Winter is the Best Time To Meet Guys

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Everyone says the holiday season is the worst season for dating. From gift giving to family gatherings, balancing a new relationship can be daunting, especially for the guy. However, with all the holiday soirées on the horizon and the New Year rapidly approaching, it’s the perfect time to find that perfect guy.

According to an article published by Glamour, the British Company Lovehoney performed an experiment to assess attraction over the course of a year.

“They showed higher levels of attraction in December, January, and February than they did in summer months,” Lovehoney said. “And it wasn’t just for random women either: Men in relationships reported higher attraction to the partners in winter than in summer.”

Along with the holidays come parties, sparkle, and the ultimate opportunity to mingle among crowds you may not be all that too familiar with. Going to a co-worker’s holiday party not only introduces you to a whole new crowd of possible friends and work connections, but it also opens the door to knock the guys out of the water with that holiday dress you’ve been planning to wear since May. Studies also show that people are more inclined to participate in conversation during the holiday season, so don’t be afraid to be forward and take the opportunity to spark conversation with the cutie you’ve been eyeing. After all, the window to making 2013 “your year” is coming to a close. A last minute effort isn’t going to harm anyone.

The holiday season gives us plenty some time to rest, relax, and renew after the rough and rowdy fall semester. The time spent over winter break back in your hometown may bring you a few surprises on the reunion scene. As this is the time of year to catch up with old friends, it’s also the time of year to see how much everyone has changed since high school graduation. Your old high school crush could be newly available, or that nerd from chemistry class could suddenly be the hottest thing on the hometown market. Either way, whether it is a rekindled flame or a new spark, don’t block those former aquatints from your radar.

Family vacations always turn out to be some kind of experience- good or bad. Whether you’re hitting the slopes in Colorado, spending a little time at Disney World, or sailing the Caribbean, you can rest assured you will not be the only college kid there. No matter where your parents may drag take you, seize the moment and find where most of the Collegiettes are hanging out. Being stuck in an unfamiliar place forces people to be more sociable. Take the opportunity to introduce yourself to the guy on the elevator; you never know where it might lead.

While this is an optimal time to meet a new guy remember a few things: keep it casual, fun, and lighthearted. If you expect too much too soon, you could risk scaring your new guy away before you get a chance to lock him down. Remember, this time of year can be very stressful, so relax, have fun, and enjoy the festivities!
