Why I’m Choosing Not to Stress Over Finals

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

We all know that exam week can be extremely stressful. With the place that the world is in right now, we already have enough to stress over. Classes being transferred online was already a huge chance that many of us are still adjusting to. It seems like the end of the semester rapidly approached and snuck up on all of us and now we’re wracking our brains wondering how we will cram as much information into our brains as possible. This semester, I’ve chosen that I am not going to let finals week take over my life like I usually do. Here’s a list of why and how I’m going to do that without failing my classes:

   1. I’m already stressed to the max.

With the whole Coronavirus pandemic going on, my anxiety is through the roof. You’d think that with all this extra time I have being stuck in the house that I would just use that time to study, but that’s just not realistic. The COVID-19 pandemic has raised stress levels in my home tremendously. I’ve been forced to switch my surroundings from my Tallahassee apartment back to my family home. I’ve had to move all of my things home and basically transfer my life back home when I wasn’t ready. With this huge change in my life it’s hard to get back into my usual routine of studying.

   2. I adopted a puppy!

I’ve been wanting to adopt my own puppy for some time now and since I have all the free time in the world, what better time to adopt a dog than now? My puppy Daisy has already brought so much joy into my life for the few days I’ve had her, but I’ve had to dedicate a lot of time to training and taking care of her. This of course is taking away from time that I could be using to study but c’mon… who would choose studying over playing with a puppy? My puppy also chewed up my laptop charger so that might be a good reason why I haven’t been studying (LOL).

    3. I’m happy with where my grades are.

Usually, I would be cramming in every ounce of information I could before my final exams to try and end up with the highest grade possible, but this semester is different. For the sake of my mental health, I am glad that I’ve done so well throughout the entire semester so I can take a little breather for finals week. In order to get the grades that I want, I know I won’t have to study my butt off and that is honestly music to my ears.

It was tough to come to terms with the fact that I wasn’t going to be pulling all-nighters and pumping out flash card after flash card, but once I decided that I didn’t want to stress myself out more than I already am it was a no brainer. Take little time for yourself this week and don’t let your grades define you!
