It’s been five years since Johnny Depp and Amber Heard took each other’s hand in marriage. Since then, their highly publicized relationship has been the source of many discussions revolving around domestic violence allegations, restraining orders, divorce and lawsuits.
Their complicated marriage and ongoing legal battles are littered with back and forth court sanctions, motions and lawsuits between each divorcee’s respective attorney. A timeline up to July 2019 can be found here.
Recently, the two actors have made headlines again. This comes as a result of a newly surfaced audio recording between Johnny and Amber months before they filed for divorce in May 2016. “The audio, shared by the Daily Mail and confirmed to USA TODAY by Depp’s lawyer Adam Waldman as a real recording from 2015, includes Heard and Depp discussing an incident that got physical.” According to Complex, it “details how she started assaulting Depp.” Parts of what Complex covers include:
“I did start a physical fight,” Heard said, according to the transcript. Depp went onto claim that she was punching him to which Heard replied: “Babe, you’re not punched … I don’t know what the motion of my actual hand was, but you’re fine. I did not hurt you, I did not punch you, I was hitting you.”
Depp said: “I do not want to leave you. I do not want a divorce, I do not want you out of my life. I just want peace. If things get physical, we have to separate.” Then Heard replied by claiming that she can’t promise to be “perfect,” stating: ” I can’t promise you I won’t get physical again. God, I (expletive) sometimes get so mad I lose it,” she continued.
The full, hour-long audio can be found here.
The audio was posted on Twitter which prompted the ex-Pirates of the Caribbean actor to begin trending in the hashtag #JusticeforJohnnyDepp. Many tweets went viral in support of him as well as domestic abuse victims/survivors in general.
In the most popular tweet, a two-minute clip of the released audio, listeners can hear Amber Heard and Johnny Depp discussing a moment in which Depp went to his bodyguard after a physical altercation where Depp states that Heard punched him with a “closed fist.” Heard then goes on to say “You are such a baby! Grow the (expletive) up Johnny!” Find the tweet here.
As court proceedings are still ongoing, this dramatic legal and public battle is far from over. Stay tuned and stay informed!
