Top Couple Costumes for 2013

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Collegiettes, it is that time of year again!

Forget midterms! The real stress wreaking havoc in our lives is the pressure of pulling off the best Halloween costume we can come up with.  This is our shining moment to show off our creativity… and our boyfriends. So, to begin the season, I have compiled a few of my favorite ideas for this holiday season.

Now for starters, I would just like to add that there is one couple I haven’t put in here- and that is Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke. Let’s face it; half of Tallahassee is going to be twerking with foam fingers against their Beetlejuice boy for the evening. So, while this is sure to be a crowd pleaser, I have decided to select another array of options that step a little outside of their pop culture bubble.

Duck Dynasty:

Let’s face it, no matter which couple you decide, you can really run with it. If you decide to be Phil and Kay you have an excellent excuse to make pie. If you decide to be Willie and Kori, you can dress like a southern glamazon the entire night while your boyfriend gets to deck out in camo and bandanas. It’s a win-win for everyone.

Kimye:

Possibly the most talked about duo of the year, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian is a power couple…not to mention that they each have an unbelievable amount of crazy and fabulous outfits that are a blast to recreate.  If you’re obsessed with “Keeping up With the Kardashians” and your boyfriend is a hip-hop enthusiast, this is the perfect place to meet in the middle.

The Great Gatsby:

No matter who your favorite character may be, this film has quite the array to pick from. This fashion has swept the nation making ‘20s inspired finds easier to come by then ever. Just think about how you can create an entire ensemble that you can break apart and wear each piece separately in your wardrobe later.

The Hunger Games:

This one can be as involved as you would like it to be. Like the couple I have shown above, some crafting is all you need to complete the job. Plus, with the second movie about to debut in theatres, you will be ahead of the trend.

50 Shades of Grey:

This costume can be taken many different directions. You could dress up as the main characters, but what is the fun in that? I have seen the most unique outfits created from two completely different directions. For one, a unique choice would be to make costumes out of the paint swatches from Lowes or Home Depot. Even more unique and slightly more challenging, creating a entire monochromatic look from skin to clothes is definitely a show stopper.

Whether you and your boy choose to take inspiration from The Great Gatsby or Duck Dynasty, go all out. It’s always more fun to put the effort into a great costume and then receive recognition throughout the night on your hard work. But most importantly, be safe and be smart!
