College can be a scary place, so many students turn to an animal’s affection to get through tough times. Having a pet in college is a luxury that more and more people are realizing is a great idea. You have to be responsible for someone other than yourself, but you soon realize it’s worth it. Having someone who is excited to see you when you walk in the door and lay with you when you’re sick far outweighs the hassle of taking care of them. As I’ve come to learn, taking care of your pet is something you look forward to. It’s become part of my daily routine; taking the dog out for a nice walk or watching my guinea pig freak out when I give her more food.

The best part about it is the hours you spend wandering around the pet store. It’s kind of like target, only for your pets. Spoiling your pet is almost better than spoiling yourself because with one look at their little face, you know you’ve made their whole day. Here are 13 thoughts you have while your spoiling your little nugget in Petco.

“I wish it was closer to my house so I didn’t have to get on the Parkway to get there. Now I’ve just wasted time.”

“I love the smell of this place. It’s like a mix between wet dog and kitty litter. I wish they made it in a candle.”

“What am I here for? Don’t want to get side-tracked. OMG, look at this new little kitten looking for a home! I’ll adopt you. My mom won’t mind.”

“Okay so food. Now there’s the organic kind, the kind he likes, and the kind I like. Yep, we’re getting what I want.”

“Toys? Oh you definitely need a new toy. You haven’t even touched the other one I bought last week, so you probably don’t like it.”

“How about some treats? There’s twelve million different kinds so I should probably get a few of each so you have some variety in your life.”

“Oh, look at the cute little outfits. I know you hate when I put them on you, but you just look so adorable. This one is your size.”

“Aww, you look tired. I promise we’re almost done. I just feel like I’m forgetting something.”

“A new bed? Sure! You have to be comfortable when you sleep.”

“I can’t carry any more; better start heading to the register.”

“Yes, I have my rewards card. I’m an elite member in the ‘Paws to Pay’ program.”

“Wow, the total is really that much? I guess I went a little overboard today.”

“But I know you’ll love everything I bought you so it’s always worth it.”
