Sun Room the Band is Coming to Tallahassee

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

This Saturday, April 29 Sun Room will be performing at 926 Bar in Tallahassee! The show starts at 9 pm and there will be tickets available at the door. FSU music lovers and Tally locals alike are in for a guaranteed good time with this sun-loving boy band’s show. But who is Sun Room the band?

“Some friends from Southern California who like to surf & make music out of their very hot garage” answers the band’s website. Made up of four boys from Southern California, their music holds an undeniable surf-rock vibe to it. They got their initial start after being formed in only 2020 by lead singer and guitarist Luke Asgian. He brought together drummer, Gibby Anderson, guitarist Ashton Minnich, and bassist Max Pinamonti to form the band. The boys have focused on pulling inspiration from the different California beach towns that they grew up in to create their sound.

With over 500k monthly listeners on Spotify and over 100k followers on Instagram, the band is certainly on the rise. Their song “Crashed My Bike” was featured on the soundtrack of the largely popular Netflix show, Outer Banks. They recently finished opening for the band Inhaler across North America.

The group is currently touring through Florida, hitting major cities like Tampa and Orlando along with college towns like Gainesville and Tallahassee. The latter is a smart move considering their audience is primarily 20-something-year-olds. Previous performance reviews have confirmed that the best way to describe the band is simply with the word, fun.

Their Instagram bio boasts their band as “the sound of fun.” Among their most popular songs is one titled, “Fun.” With over 5 million streams on Spotify, the song is upbeat and perfectly encapsulates the feeling of summer. It has that rough rock edge that makes their music unique, while still feeling hopeful and light. Their song “Clementine” transports a listener to s summer day in July, with a catchy chorus that will get stuck in your head after a couple of listens. Their most popular song, “Sol Del Sur” has over 10 million streams on Spotify and certainly leans into the rock side of their surf-rock style. It’s moodier than their other songs but holds that same quality that just feels like it was created in a hot garage in the summertime.

The music video for “Clementine” is a perfect illustration of the band’s music and overall aesthetic. It shows the boys riding bikes and skateboarding down a California neighborhood. Clips of the band performing in a backyard, all piling into a van, and frolicking through an open field wraps up the general “fun” vibe of the band’s music. Their “Crashed My Bike” video features similar fun clips of the band performing, skating, and overall just having a good time together.

The band’s music is easy to fun to listen to and the boys seem to all genuinely love being together creating it. If their show is as good of a time as their online presence shows them to be, it should be a 10/10 night.
