Shootin’ Hoops and Taking Names: Meet Morgan Jones

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Spring semester is all about Florida State basketball! Coming in from a National Championship win, we can expect the Seminole student body to be fired up and confident for some success from the amazing women’s basketball team. Get to know Morgan Jones, a star player whose name you’ll definitely be seeing often this season.

Her Campus (HC): What are you majoring in?

Morgan Jones (MJ): I am majoring in sports management for my undergraduate degree, and plan on going to grad school to study sports marketing.

HC: What are your plans for after graduation?

MJ: My plans after graduation are to go play professional basketball for a few years, and then work for a sports organization such as Nike, Adidas, et cetera. Ideally, I would love to get involved in the marketing side of things.

HC: Where are you from? What do you miss most about being home?

MJ: I am from Lake Mary, FL which is just outside of Orlando, FL. What I miss most about home is just being home with familiar places and people. I am very close with my family, and my childhood friends are still in that area, so that is what I look forward to most when I get a chance to go home.

HC: What is your favorite thing about being a Florida State Seminole?

MJ: My favorite thing about being a Seminole is the culture here. It breeds greatness. Being a part of such an elite athletic program, with our football team winning a National Championship and all the different sports ranked as the top in the country, makes it feel like a community of hard work and Seminole pride. This also allows multiple avenues for endless networking, especially in the sports management field.

HC: What do you like to do in your spare time and over the weekends?

MJ: In my spare time I like to spend time with my friends and enjoy the city of Tallahassee. I spend so much time in the gym during my free time so I like to get out and do different things that are relaxing and take my mind off of basketball, such as a trip to the mall or dinner with the girls.

HC: What do you hope to accomplish this year during your basketball season?

MJ: This year I want to finish top five in our conference as well as maintain our top 25 ranking throughout the season. I also hope to accomplish a great finish in the NCAA tournament that gives us a great confidence boost heading into the next season.

HC: Do you have any funny stories to share from traveling with your team?

MJ: A funny story that seems to happen every time we travel to another city is the “you forget, you sing” rule. If you forget anything (jacket, keys, headphones, et cetera.), then you must sing on the bus in front of everyone. This brings great laughs to everyone. Especially when 6’5″ Kai James blessed us with her beautiful voice singing “Differences” by Ginuwine.
