Rachel and The City: Fall Reads For The Pop-Culture Lovers

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Obsessed with pop-culture and fashion, I’m the girl who follows more celebrities/designers/editors on Instagram than people I actually know. Recently, there’s been a lot of buzz going on about new and soon-to-be released memoirs I just can’t wait to get my hands on. So of course I HAD to share my excitement with you Collegiettes! Amidst the approaching end to the semester filled with application deadlines, picking new schedules and finals, you’re probably thinking, “I don’t have time to sleep, let alone read.” (And I couldn’t agree more.) But if you keep a book in your bag for that awkward period in-between classes or simply pick it up a few minutes before bed every night, I promise these new fab reads will help make even the most stressful days a bit more relaxing.

The Woman I Wanted To Be | Diane von Fürstenberg

When I visited DVF’s “Journey of a Dress” exhibit at LACMA, I fell in love with her even more! Continuing to celebrate the 40th year of the creation of her iconic wrap dress, DVF recently released her new memoir, The Woman I Wanted To Be. The designer, philanthropist, wife, mother and grandmother takes readers through her journey to the woman she wanted to become. Filled with experiences ranging from childhood, love, beauty, style and the fashion industry, it’s sure to inspire and empower! And if you end up loving DVF and her memoir, her first series House of DVF premieres November 2nd on E!. The show details the fashion icon’s search for a new brand ambassador, staying true to reality television with her motto, “My religion is truth.”

Released October 28, 2014.

Not That Kind of Girl | Lena Dunham

In the endless cycle of constantly attempting (and mostly failing) to catch up on all of my shows, I’m still slacking on watching the critically-acclaimed HBO series, Girls. From what my friends tell me about the show, Dunham’s book shouldn’t stray too far from it. The creator and star of Girls, Dunham characterizes her book into five sections: “Love & Sex,” “Body,” “Friendship,” “Work,” and “Big Picture.” If you’re looking for something quirky, fun, and honest, this is a must-read. Her extremely down-to-earth attitude is a huge refresher — especially during the emotional rollercoaster we experience throughout our college years.

Released September 30, 2014.

The Andy Cohen Diaries: A Deep Look at a Shallow Year | Andy Cohen

Andy Cohen, the king of Bravo, channels Andy Warhol in his new memoir, The Andy Cohen Diaries: A Deep Look at a Shallow Year. The book discusses his experiences over the past year and dishes on everything from his late-night show Watch What Happens: Live! to The Real Housewives, dating, his new (and adorable) puppy named Wacha and of course everything pop-culture. Sarah Jessica Parker claims, “After reading this funny, intimate, candid, honest diary of a year in Andy’s life, I couldn’t help but wonder, ‘Is Andy Cohen… Carrie Bradshaw?’” If you’re as obsessed with Sex and the City as I am, this line just sealed the book’s fate.

To be released November 11, 2014.
