As the end of October nears, many of us find ourselves trying to get every last bit of the spooky spirit before it’s too late. In college, Halloween is often associated with extravagant parties and going out, but for all my girlies who would rather celebrate the holidays in with a group of friends and avoid the chaos that comes with leaving the house, I’ve got you. Here are some ideas to plan a perfect girls’ night in, full of all those frightening fall festivities.
Painting Pumpkins
Think classic pumpkin carving’s cuter, simpler cousin. We all love the idea of carving pumpkins, but it often comes with lots of cleanup, difficult blades and a gourd that’s shriveled and rotting in a week or two. I say, plan a little trip to your local patch, grab your favorite colors and paint away with your friends instead. Everyone can add their own personal touches to theirs and will leave with a perfect little seasonal apartment decoration.
Making spooky sweets
Cookies are a fall necessity. Whether you are a master baker or can barely use the oven, there is an option for you. The classic Pillsbury Halloween cookies are as easy as making sure they don’t burn and are sure to be devoured by the sheet. If you want to make a party out of it, get some ghost, bat or pumpkin cutters and some festive frostings, sprinkles and toppings. Other fun and easy recipes for a group include caramel apples, Halloween Chex mix and festive muddy buddies.
Charcuterie board contest
Show off everyone’s creative side and judge some tasty, assorted boards. These can be sweet or savory, big or small and at any level of intricacy. You’re sure to end up with an aesthetic array of Halloween spirit.
Pizza night
Again, modify accordingly, but make-your-own pizza night is the single best night in theme, in my opinion. There are also so many fun and cute Halloween-themed ways to customize your pizza and endless ways to get creative. This could even be a contest in itself with single personal pizzas, or you could opt to all work together on a bigger one or two. If you’re not feeling like putting in the elbow grease at the moment, not to worry. There are also many pizza places that deliver themed pies for the season such as Papa John’s Jack-O-Lantern Pizza.
Show/Movie Marathons
Finally, no matter what the main activity is, everyone knows the best way to celebrate is by reminiscing on favorite seasonal shows or movies. These can be on in the background while the baking/painting/decorating commences or grab your popcorn and settle in on the couch. Here are some ideas based on the mood.
- For fall vibes all around: Gilmore Girls, specifically Halloween episodes
- For nostalgia: Old Disney Channel Monstober Episodes, Hocus pocus, Halloweentown, Twitches, etc.
- For a laugh: Ghostbusters, The Adams Family, Gremlins.
- For a scare: Scream, Halloween movie series, any horror film.
Hopefully, you’ve been inspired for your next night in with friends. Sending scares, smiles and hopes of many spooky aesthetic pictures! Happy Halloween!!
