Oliver Gonzalez: Aspiring Doctor

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Name: Oliver Gonzalez

Year: Junior

Hometown: North Miami Beach, FL

Relationship Status: In a Relationship

Major: Biological Sciences

Her Campus: Are you actively involved on campus?

Oliver Gonzalez: My main extracurricular activities at the moment consist of undergraduate research in the department of Biological Sciences, several pre-medical organizations including AMSA’s executive board, and a Teacher’s Assistant job for a General Biology I course (BSC2010).

HC: What is your philosophy on life?

OG: Work hard, play hard, and stay humble.

HC: Who is your go-to person for anything?

OG: God and my primary family.

HC: What are your plans after you graduate from Florida State?

OG: Hopefully receive an acceptance letter from a medical school and continue the goal.

HC: What inspired you to pursue a career in the medical field?

OG: I think we’ve all at least thought of it once and we followed the idea until different things about the field either lost or aggrandized our interest. I’ve been lucky enough to appreciate and enjoy science at a more in-depth level.

HC: What advice would you give to yourself as freshman two years ago?

OG: No advice per se, but definitely would’ve let myself know to be a little less hard on myself. No regrets however.

HC: What is your favorite thing to eat in the whole-wide world?

OG: I love food, man.

HC: What is one thing you can’t live without?

OG: Food.

HC: If you could trade places with anyone in the world from any point in time whom would it be and why?

OG:  No idea, I think I’d like to know or at least observe how certain individuals developed their thoughts, like Isaac Newton who essentially invented calculus in his own basement, or Einstein with relativity because I just cannot comprehend how an individual’s mind can extend so far without any hindsight knowledge.

HC: If you didn’t have to work for money, what would be your dream job?

OG:  A doctor.

HC: What motivates you to wake up every morning?

OG: I have time, but it is limited – I was blessed to be born in the best nation in the world and I realized a lot sooner than most that I was given a great opportunity to receive an education and pursue something I love. I do not take this for granted at all.

HC: What constitutes a well-rounded girl in your opinion?

OG:  Healthy mind, healthy body.

HC: What is your opinion on dating in college?

OG:  If they’re on the same page with goals and have similar interests, it’s good to have company.

HC: Lastly, what do you want people to remember you for ten years from now?

OG: He had no regrets, he made every day count.
