Meet Tyler Smiley: Campus Cutie

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Tyler Smiley could possibly be one of the busiest Seminoles on campus. He is a dual major, involved in many student organizations, works two jobs, and still has time for community service and making the Dean’s list.

Name: Tyler Smiley

Year in school: Senior

Major: Dual major in Finance and Marketing

Her Campus (HC): Are you single or taken?

Tyler Smiley (TS): Single.

HC: Where did you grow up?

TS: I was born in Queens but grew up in Long Island, NY and Jupiter, FL.

HC: What is your favorite thing about FSU?

TS: Campus life. It is easy to get involved in anything that you are interested in. I am on the executive board of student boosters, vice president of the student leadership counsel, and the public relations chair for the FRLA.

HC: Did you go to Pasadena for the BCS National Championship game?

TS: Yes. It was amazing. A few of my friends and I rented a car and drove straight to Pasadena. Our tire blew out in Texas and we rode for 300 miles on a donut. Cars can usually only drive 70 miles on a donut, sowe just crossed our fingers and it worked out.

HC: What are your interests outside of school?

TS: I am a bartender at The Strip.

HC: What other kind of jobs have you had?

TS: I used to bartend at Cheeks. I also used to work at Seminole Discount Liquor and Gold’s Gym. I did an internship for the Emerald Grande last summer in Destin, FL too.

HC: What would be your dream job?

TS: I would love to wake up in the morning and work in a ceramic art studio. Ceramic art is something you have to focus on – you can’t really think of anything else that’s going on throughout the day.

HC: What are the three most important things to you?

TS: Integrity, honesty, and genuineness. Not being a bullsh*ter.

HC: What are three things you look for in a girlfriend?

TS: She has to have personality, a lot of friends, and has to be genuine.

HC: I know no one dates anymore, but what would be your ideal date?

TS: I would like to go out to Wakulla Springs, go to dinner in a small boutique-style restaurant that no one knows about, and then teach her how to do ceramic arts.

HC: What is the best pick-up line anyone has ever used on you?

TS: Hey I lost my phone, can I use yours to find it?

HC: Who is your celebrity girl crush?

TS: Victoria Beckham.

HC: Do you have a celebrity guy crush?

TS: George Clooney.

HC: What is your spirit animal?

TS: An otter because they are cute yet badass. They are just awesome – they work with their hands and they can work together in groups.

HC: If you could have dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?

TS: Morgan Freeman.

HC: What is your favorite thing to do on the weekends?

TS: Relax. I also like to go to FSU sporting events and play beach volleyball.

HC: Do you work out?

TS: Yes. Five days a week.

HC: What is your favorite food?

TS: Italian food, especially chicken parmesan.

HC: What kind of music do you like listening to?

TS: I love the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I also like to listen to classical music when I study, and Bob Marley when I am relaxing.

HC: If you could go back and change any part of history, what would it be?

TS: When I was ten years old my mother passed away from breast cancer. I would change that.

HC: What are your future aspirations?

TS: I am interested in politics. I work for a Senator right now. I also helped to create a non-profit called Kathi Smillie Nursing Foundation in honor of my mother. Our goal is to raise awareness of breast cancer.

The money that we raise is used for scholarships.

HC: What is your favorite memory from college?

TS: 4th quarter at the Rose Bowl when the confetti started falling down on the student section of the stadium.

HC: Where do you want to move after college?

TS: I want to move back to New York, maybe Long Island.
