Locally-Owned Coffee Shops in Tallahassee That You Need To Try

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

The start of school sparks lots of change in college students’ lives, altering things like daily schedules, stress levels, sleeping habits and more! And if you’re anything like me, your coffee intake increases like crazy. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love a good Starbucks Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso, but nothing beats sitting in a cute little local coffee shop, coffee in hand, getting all caught up on your homework and being productive.

Furthermore, nothing is better than supporting local businesses, so why not combine the two and knock out some work while you’re at it? Here are a few recommendations from someone who’s tried a whole lot of local coffee to start you off.

1. RedEye Coffee

In addition to serving great coffee, RedEye Coffee is also a minority and women-owned establishment! The business proudly supports local nonprofits and humanitarian causes and has raised over $350,000 between both. One of my favorites to get at RedEye is the 16-ounce cold brew bottles to take home and drink throughout the week.

2. Lucky Goat Coffee Co.

Founded in 2010 in Tallahassee, Lucky Goat Coffee Co. is a must-try for all students in town. They have a huge selection of fun coffee flavors to try, ranging from Hawaiian Hazelnut all the way to Creme Brulee. The ambiance inside is perfect for studying, doing homework or hanging out with friends. The Luckyccino is always good, but if you’re looking for something special, you can’t go wrong trying out one of the specialty flavors.

3. Paper Fox Coffee

Paper Fox Coffee is a great environment to do work and be productive. They are constantly rotating new flavors and have lots of seasonal special flavors for fall, including apple and cinnamon. They also have some of the cutest, most postable coffee art, which is always a plus.

4. Ology Coffee Co.

If you’re looking for a more adventurous coffee to try, I absolutely recommend Ology Coffee Co. They have lots of fun flavors like their fruit bomb coffee. This spunky spot is perfect to meet with friends and hang out. Ology additionally has some breakfast items and frequently has donut pop-ups!

5. Black Dog Cafe

Black Dog Cafe is a coffee shop beloved by all my friends that live in north Tallahassee. They have classics, like cold brews and Americanos, as well as sweet frappe drinks. The women-owned business also has lots of breakfast treats and snacks. This cafe is the perfect spot to bring a good book, grab a coffee and live out your Gilmore Girls diner dreams.

Overall, Tallahassee has so many cool local businesses to support that have so many distinct and quirky products to try. These local coffee shops are the perfect place to work and study to start the school year off strong, meet up with friends or just chill with a good book for some alone time!
