Her Campus (HC): What are some organizations or clubs that you’re involved in at FSU?
Lindsay Culbreth (LC): I am involved with Coping through College, Phi Sigma Pi Fraternity, Relay for Life, Dance Marathon, and I am a content writer/editing manager for an FSU Chapter of Verge Campus.
HC: What did you find interesting about Phi Sigma Pi that made you want to rush for that fraternity?
LC: Every member I reached out to spoke so highly of the friendships and amazing opportunities Phi Sigma Pi had to offer and I really found myself wanting to be a part of something effective to help me engage more in my college experience.
HC: Did you consider rushing for any other sorority?
LC: I did consider it when I first transferred to FSU as a Junior, however, I decided against it because I wasn’t fully committed to it at the time of rush week.
HC: Why did you decide to major in EWM? What have you enjoyed the most as an EWM major?
LC: I have had a passion for writing all my life. I began to publish my writing for my high school newspaper and I fell in love with it and decided then that I wanted to pursue a career that would give me the chance to showcase my work and help market my ideas. What I love most about the EWM major is that it gives me the opportunity to explore several different mediums I have always wanted to master since I would enjoy pursuing a career in marketing after college.
HC: I remember you told me about Verge Campus. Can you tell me a bit more about the website?
LC: Oh, it’s fantastic! This website is focused mostly on the music industry and pop culture lifestyle. Each Chapter writes for their own University so it is entirely run by the students, for the students which allows the college community to stay involved and connected. Students are able to write about anything ranging from music/pop culture to campus life and even to sports/news topics so pretty much anything you want to write about is up to your judgment which is why we really enjoy giving students a chance to voicing their own opinions and interests. We also accommodate any internships credits that need to be fulfilled with certain majors too which is pretty neat!
HC: What do you think sets Verge Campus apart from other online publications?
LC: I personally think Verge Campus sets themselves apart from others based on the sole purpose of focusing on the music industry and pop culture point of view. We encourage students to write about anything they would like, but we love to hear about the new up and coming trends that are being released. Verge Campus is a site that also lets students voice their thoughts and opinions freely with all judgment set aside and I think this is a huge factor that allows people to enjoy the content they feel comfortable writing about.
HC: What are your goals when you graduate?
LC: My major goal is to get a job in marketing really. I don’t know exactly where I would like to end up but I am loving being an editor for what I do now.
HC: How do you feel about graduation? Are you excited, scared?
LC: Oh, I’m terrified, but I’m also really excited at the same time. I am a bit nervous to go off in the world and start my life but I think I’m prepared enough to move away and start fresh.
HC: How much have you’ve grown from a freshman to a senior? What are you going to miss the most after you graduate?
LC: I have grown a lot I will completely admit that. I used to think I knew it all as a Freshman and time after time I learned I was wrong. However, with the help from friends and family, I have finally found my place of what I want to do and that is what has made me so dedicated as a Senior to go for what I really want to do in life. The thing I’ll miss most is the friendships that I continuously build, but with the relationships I’ve built now I know I’ll be just fine in the future!
HC: What’s the best advice you can give to someone who’s entering the EWM major?
LC: My best advice would be to just really focus on what you love most and start there. Once you truly find out what you love most about English, you are able to showcase your talents through EWM in ways you didn’t think were possible. Change your mind and change it again, that is completely okay because you’ll thank yourself down the road when you realize what you really enjoy doing that you took the time and effort to get there!
