Some of you may have seen fellow student Jenny Knipe showing off her dance moves on the field during football games, or you may have recognized her in commercials played on the Jumbotron. But this extremely talented student does far more than that.
Jenny’s hometown is Orlando, Florida. She is a junior and a media communications major at Florida State. Besides dancing, some of her other favorite hobbies consist of traveling, spending time her with family, cooking, and making new friends. When asked to describe herself in one word, Jenny replied with “bubbly”. Jenny takes great pride in her school and loves being a Nole. She said that her favorite thing about FSU is that the student body is very welcoming and has so much school spirit. Not only does she enjoy being a Golden Girl because of her passion for dancing, but because she loves having the opportunity to cheer on the Noles and represent the university.
One thing that people may not know about Jenny is that she has been to China five times. Since her younger sister is adopted, she has done a lot of orphan work there. She participated in a fundraiser for children with special needs to be put on an adoption list with hope of finding them families. She also helped build playgrounds, libraries, and do orphanage renovations while there. Her main focus was spreading love to the children and helping them get the surgeries that they needed in order to get adopted. Her favorite part about her experiences in China was “to be a light” to the people there. She further explained that most of them have never seen an American before, so giving them that opportunity while also spreading love and hope was what she enjoyed most.
Jenny has always wanted to be involved in the media because of her love of talking to people and being in front of the camera. Ever since she was young, she told people that she wanted to become a talk show host when she grew up. As a freshman, she was accepted into the media communications program, which gave her a good start to pursuing her dreams. Jenny hopes to work in the media in her future. In ten years, she sees herself hosting a talk show or a morning show on television.
When Jenny was offered the opportunity to appear on commercials at the football games, she was more than willing to do it. When asked about her experience, she replied with, “I was asked to do the commercials this summer. I was excited about doing them because I knew it would be great work to add to my résumé. The purpose of them is not just to act as an advertisement for Moe’s and Blue Cross and Blue Shield, but to get their point across as well. They wanted to have somebody talking about something engaging on the Jumbotron, rather than just putting up a banner or having a typical audio ad. I was happy to be asked to do it and was so thankful for the opportunity. I am always on the field for football games but it was a whole different experience being on the Jumbotron every week. Each game I get to do both things that I love: dance and media productions!”
