Florida’s Spookiest Music Festival

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Anyone else LOVE Halloween? Have you been prepping for October since July? Well it’s finally time! But there are ways to celebrate outside of going trick-or-treating if you’re looking in the right places. To all my witches, voodoo gurus, and Nightmare Before Christmas lovers alike I have the perfect excursion for you—Suwannee Hulaween.

What to Expect

Suwannee Hulaween is a music festival held in The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park, only about an hour south Tallahassee held on none other than Halloween weekend. Believe me—it is the spookiest music festival out there. With interactive exhibits, obscure art, and some of the most hypnotic bands in the music industry, this event was made for all free spirits and Halloween fanatics alike. The pre-party for the festival begins the night of Thursday, October 25th and the main festivities take place starting the afternoon of Friday the 26th and concluding late Sunday night, the 28th. That comes out to be almost 100 hours of uninterrupted concerts performed by your favorite bands, live performers, vivid light installations and even a Silent Disco!

What to Bring

ALL of your camping gear! Hulaween’s General Admission guests are allotted space to park their car and set up camp, unless you purchase a VIP pass—but as a college student, it’s good to save some room in the bank for a souvenir t-shirt of your favorite band so pass on the glamping.

You might be thinking: three days in the middle of the woods? No way. But you’re completely immersed in the Hulaween experience, which is one of the best parts! So, pack a few tapestries, some snacks and maybe even a cooler full of your favorite flavor of White Claw’s and you’ll be all set.

What to Wear

It’s time to bring out your favorite festival accessories, lots of glitter and a Halloween costume or two if you’re feeling the spooky spirit. I personally like to bring my favorite pair of glittery cat ears and some funky glasses for the occasion. The best way to embrace Hulaween is by wearing whatever you want—no matter how colorful, crazy or quirky it is. Head to your local thrift store to find everything you might need!

This Year’s Headliners

Hulaween’s biggest headliner is The String Cheese Incident. They are a groovy band who originally produced this music festival, and they headline every single day of the festival!

If you can’t get enough String Cheese, you should know that they are loved by their fanbase so much that many of the fans actually will bring string cheese to toss up onto the stage as they perform! Having string cheese fall out of the sky is one of the most improbable things I’ve ever seen, and its unusual nature fits the festival perfectly! Also, being featured as headliners are Jamiroquoai and Janelle Monae, but these are just a few from close to 70 artists that are performing this year!
