The Ever-so-Exquisite, Bianca Medina

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Florida State senior Family and Child Sciences major, Bianca Medina, says she strives to be “a strong, intelligent, and well-rounded individual,” but that’s exactly what she is now. Bianca is president of FSU’s Mexican-American Student Association (MASA) and a proud sister and External Social Chair of Theta Nu Xi’s Lambda Chapter here at FSU. Looking to spread diversity and love with not only her fellow students, but with society in general, Bianca’s involvement in these organizations makes her into the strong, intelligent and well-rounded individual that she is.

As president of MASA, Bianca is in charge of all functions, meetings, and activities relating to not only the organization, but to Mexican-American culture. She is in charge of representing the group’s purpose throughout FSU.

In case you did not know, MASA is only on our campus for its second year and is quickly growing! The organization is affiliated with the Hispanic Latino Student Union and works to spread knowledge of the Mexican-American culture. Through meetings, events, and performances around campus, MASA spreads their love for their culture.

One of the things Bianca says she loves most about MASA is that the organization’s members are so diverse. There are members who are not Mexican who still have the same dedication and love for the culture, which Bianca says is “highly praised” by everyone involved. She says that she could not be more proud of the team she has behind her to represent MASA, and they are always welcoming anyone who is interested to join.

As if being president of MASA was not enough, Bianca is also a very active sister of Theta Nu Xi Multicultural Sorority Incorporated. Theta Nu Xi is all about promoting diversity on campus. “Theta Nu Xi is a sorority and the only organization within the Multicultural Greek Council that is based on the tenet of Multiculturalism and its progression,” Bianca says. “We embrace diversity and strive to promote diversity on campus. We embody scholarship, service, sisterhood, leadership and multiculturalism through events, community service, and performances each year.”

After joining Theta Nu Xi this past spring semester, Bianca is the Ace of her line and her line name is Miss Demeanor. Serving as the External Social Chair for the sorority, she coordinates social events with other organizations, allowing her to meet people all over campus and “bring events to the student body that embody what Theta Nu Xi is all about,” she says.

Bianca is extremely proud to have the opportunity to be part of such a beautiful, diverse, and supporting group of women. She values the unconditional support and sisterhood she shares with the women of Theta Nu Xi, and sees the sorority as something bigger than herself: “My sisters and I share a bond that is rare, genuine, and, most of all, exquisite.”

After graduating, Bianca plans to work towards becoming a Child Life Specialist at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. There she will work closely with children in the hospital as a mentor for the child and for their family. Bianca will also organize activities for the children while they are hospitalized.  She also hopes to attend grad school.

Bianca is a strong believer in empowerment of young women in today’s society, and admires progressive women who take part in social change. No matter what her future holds, somehow and someway, Bianca will find a way to make a difference because of her strong-willed, confident, genuine, and loving personality.
