Ending The Silence On Domestic Violence

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

October is domestic violence awareness month, and students from all around Tallahassee are already getting involved. FSU marchers gathered at the Integration Statue on Wednesday, September 24th to begin a trek across campus aiming to increase awareness about domestic violence.

Participants wore shirts declaring “Love is Respect” and carried banners, waved signs, blew whistles, and chanted “Stop the silence: end domestic violence” as they traversed FSU’s campus. The march, which included groups from FAMU and the Capitol as well as FSU, met at the Turnbull Conference Center to listen to a survivor of domestic abuse speak about her experience.

The Domestic Violence Coordinating Council (DVCC) of Tallahassee hosted the event and provided a free dinner for everyone who attended. DVCC, Refuge House, and the Oasis Center for Women and Girls are a few local places you can turn to if you think that you or someone you know is in an abusive relationship.
