In a world where “BookTok” and social media get students just as excited about an upcoming book release as they do an upcoming movie premiere, it can be very helpful to have a list of books on hand that have already been recommended by other students with similar interests. No matter whether you’re into romance, mystery, thrillers, or comedies, here are the top 5 picks for books coming out in 2023!

Happy Place by Emily Henry

Wyn and Harriet, perhaps the most perfect couple you have ever met, have broken up and they haven’t told anyone yet. Even their best friends have no idea, which is why they agreed to spend the summer the way they always do: a sea breeze, their favorite Maine cottage, and lots of quality time together. Oh, and pretending to be a couple too. But who knows? Maybe when the summer is over, it won’t be pretend anymore.

Named the most anticipated book of 2023 by Buzzfeed and Southern Living, this ex’s-to-fake-couple trope romance novel is due to release on April 25, 2023.

Age of vice by Deepti Kapoor

This crime thriller by Deepti Kapoor is action-packed, bloodthirsty and shocking in more ways than one. There’s no going back when three New Delhi citizens, all with completely contrasting backgrounds, find their lives intertwined. Ajay, Sunny and Neda find themselves in the heart of a crime scene filled with deception, backstabbing friends, dark consequences, and romance that might just ruin everything. The novel was released on Jan. 3, 2023.

I Have Some Questions for You by Rebecca Makki

Named the most anticipated book of 2023 by TIME, USA Today, Good Housekeeping and more, this mystery novel by Rebecca Makki follows the successful professor Bodie Kane, who has suffered her fair share of tragedies, including family drama and an unhappy time in a boarding school that ended with the murder of her roommate. But this time, now that Bodie has been invited back to her high school to teach a course, she isn’t running from the murder mystery. Was the wrong killer convicted? Was there more to the murder than meets the eye? She plans to investigate it all headfirst… no matter the cost.

Yellowface by R. F. Kuang

June Hayward and Athena Liu, her fellow Yale classmate and an aspiring author, both took serious turns in their career when they jumped out of the nest post-graduation. Unfortunately for June, Athena flew and she fell. After Athena’s freak death and under the impression that nobody wanted to read her novels about white girls like herself, June made the impulsive (and perhaps reckless) decision to steal Athena’s recently finished manuscript about Chinese Laborers during World War I and publish it as her own under a completely new rebrand, a rebrand that gave June the name Juniper Song and had a picture of a non-white woman on the cover of her book.

Suddenly, June is experiencing all the success she has so desperately wanted. But when secrets start coming to light, and questions are being asked about “Juniper Song” and Athena’s death, June is about to discover just how far she’ll go to protect everything she has. This novel is set to release on May 16, 2023.
