With the spring semester coming to an end, a well-deserved break will be coming soon from all the hard work completed throughout the year. This summer will be no different, jam-packed with concerts and events to celebrate a long school year. However, when preparing for the big day, it is important to consider each venue’s requirements and forbidden items list. Some venues have strict requirements, with the most miniature bags permitted (side-eyeing at you, Raymond James Stadium). Despite all of the things we wish to bring, I have compiled the essentials that any concert-goer will need, even if we have a small bag.

Portable chargers

When at the concert, you will probably want to record and photograph every moment before and after each set, plus get a cute picture of your outfit. Or, maybe you just need to call a ride home afterward. Unfortunately, as much as we want our phones to last the whole show, it usually does not. That is why portable chargers are a necessity to keep in your bag, for whatever the case may be. You do not need a major big one, just a small and simple one will do. Small, compact ones fit perfectly within a small bag you can find on Amazon, Walmart, Target, or anywhere you shop.

Ear plugs

Some people have sensitive hearing or they may be close to the stage, so earplugs are a must. Even if this is different for you, having them in case it gets too loud during the concert is important. To enjoy the show, taking care of yourself and taking the proper precautions to avoid harm is vital. By having earplugs, you can prevent damage to your hearing, such as hearing loss or tinnitus. After watching TikToks of people attending the Eras Tour, this is definitely on my packing list. Better be safe than sorry for these situations!

Credit/Debit cards

This is an obvious one, but it is important to note that some stadiums do not take cash or Apple Pay, whatsoever. It is essential to read the guidelines of the specific arena you are going to so you are able to handle everything, despite the odds. You may need money for food or merchandise at the concert, so carrying a card is crucial. Additionally, it is important to note that you should take only a few cards. Just one or two will be good, but try not to overpack in cards, especially with how crazy it will be at the stadium.

keychain

It might seem like a random choice to take a keychain to a concert, but I have found that putting your necessary keys on a keychain is much more convenient and accessible. You do not want to waste precious space by placing a lanyard or too many dangling keys inside your bag. Instead, get a small keychain of any sort and attach all the needs, like your car and house keys. That way, you still have plenty of space, and a bonus is that it is easier to put in and take out of your bag as needed while at the venue. It’s a lot less stressful, and you can just enjoy yourself without having to worry about anything.

First-Aid kit

Maybe this is my chronic illness speaking, but carrying a small first aid kit would be a lifesaver. It can be filled with whatever you need during your concert, like Tylenol, Advil, bandages, hand sanitizer, and other necessities. This is the customizable portion, but also the most vital part of your bag. You do not want to risk an injury or body aches while you are supposed to have the best time of your life. Whatever it may be, make sure you have it all. There are miniature travel-friendly versions, instead of bottles, cases or zip-lock bags, that can melt medication (I’ve seen them). Some stadiums even allow you to fill out a form explaining your illness and your need for accommodations. These accommodations can mean a more oversized bag, fewer crowds, or at times, accessible seating. Do not hesitate to ask and pack your necessities; you can’t jeopardize your well-being for fun. Your health matters more than anything, even at a concert.

There may be more essentials that were not mentioned, but in my opinion, these are the most important things you may need during your time watching your favorite singer or band live.  With so many events coming up, it is important to pack accordingly and make sure you are prepared for anything that may potentially go wrong. Some may say this is jinxing your luck, but I prefer to be ready for whatever possibility, with my bag having everything I need. That way, I can enjoy myself without any concerns. Plus, you can always help someone in need if they do not have it. So, have fun this summer, but remember to stay safe and be careful!
