How To Spend a Spring Weekend in Tallahassee

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

With the longer days, warmer weather, and spring season in full bloom, a weekend in Tallahassee has to be taken advantage of. While the fall semester is filled with game days every weekend, you also have tons of options for activities in the spring. You can take advantage of the city without the huge crowds from football! If your Saturdays were spent cheering on the Noles, you basically gain an extra day to do whatever you want. It’s hard to rival fall semester weekends, but weekends in the spring are just as good, if not better.

Even though Tallahassee may not seem like it’s teeming with activities in the spring, it’s one of the best times to explore the city and do some of the activities that you’ve been putting off. From sunny baseball games, miles of trails, and delicious restaurants, a spring weekend doesn’t have to be boring.

Sporting Events

While there’s sadly no football in the spring, fill your weekends with other FSU sports. Pack the Tuck and go to an FSU basketball game! There are only a few home games left so make sure you don’t miss the opportunity to go. Baseball and softball season is also underway, which is perfect for spending a sunny afternoon in the bleachers shouting the war chant.

Outdoors

The spring months are a great time to get outdoors and enjoy the wonderful weather. When the first few sunny days of the season begin, you can’t help but be drawn outdoors for a little taste of what summer will be like. If you’re not trying to break the bank, these free options are the perfect activities.

  • Go for a hot girl walk at one of the many trails around the city, such as Cascades or Lafayette Park.
  • Rent kayaks at the Rez, which is free for FSU students.
  • Head down to Wakulla Springs, just 20 miles south of Tallahassee, and swim in the crystal clear waters.

Restaurants

Without block parties in College Town this semester, Friday nights are the perfect time to try those food establishments you’ve been eyeing. Whether that’s a cute café, a new restaurant opening, or a Tallahassee staple, grab your friends and share a meal together. There are tons of great options for every price range, from cheap bites to more decadent dinners. Bella Bella, The Edison, and Kool Beanz are great options for a pricier dinner.

Day Trips

If you need a break from Tallahassee and really want to make the most out of your weekend, go on a day trip! These are great for mini-getaways with friends when you just want to switch it up a bit.

st. george island and carabelle beach

St. George Island and Carabelle Beach make for the best beach days. Under two hours away, both locations are easy day trips where you can soak up the sun and relax in the sand. Stop at Publix for mandatory beach pub subs, pack the cooler with refreshing drinks and snacks, and bring your speaker for the best day trip. Spending a beach day on the “Forgotten Coast” shows you another side of Florida that we’re lucky enough to experience while going to school at FSU.

thomasville

If the beach isn’t your thing, head up to Thomasville, GA for the day and explore the shops downtown. Make sure to grab a bite at Jonah’s Fish and Grits and get there early to put your name on the list. The wait can get a bit long, but it’s definitely worth it. There’s also a great wine and cheese bar if you’re over 21.

providence canyon

Providence Canyon is also a great option for a day trip if you don’t mind a farther drive. Only two and a half hours away, this Georgia canyon is perfect for the nature girlies. You can walk down to the shaded canyon floor or stay at the top for the picturesque views.

Spring weekends in Tallahassee are the best time to explore more of the city and what FSU has to offer. There are so many things you can do in the spring, and there’s something for everyone to enjoy their weekends with here.
