Why You Should Write

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Framingham chapter.

Today (the day I’m writing this) is National Writing day, October 20th. And although by the time this article is posted to HerCampus, the national day might be over, there are still many reasons as to why you should write everyday! Here are a few reasons why you should practice your writing:

1. Gives you the chance to express your opinions

If you feel strongly or passionate about something you can always write about it to share your opinions with the public. Writing is a good way to use your voice and let people know what you are thinking about a certain topic.

2. Allows your emotions to flow

If you are like me, and you tend to keep a lot of your emotions bottled up inside until you explode, writing can be a good release of those emotions. By writing you can kind of get all your feelings out and on paper and not have to feel like you are holding on to them.

3. Inform people

If you have a topic you feel people don’t fully understand or aren’t informed enough about you can write to help teach people new things. If you are willing, you can always feel free to write an article and send it into a local newspaper or a club here on campus to allow your voice to be heard. And just to put the option out there, for any of our readers who are interesting in having an article posted, HerCampus Framingham is always open and willing to take contributor articles or feel free to join the club!

4. Expands your creativity

By practicing your writing it helps expand your mind. You start thinking more widely and creatively. It could also help expand your vocabulary and grammar.

5. Can be a stress reliever

As I mentioned before, writing can help you release your emotions, which can be a huge stress reliever. When you write it helps you get everything out and let go. Or, you could write about things complete unrelated to what is going on in your life and it can help take your mind off of things that might have you feeling overwhelmed.

6. Gets your ideas down

Its better to write and get your ideas down, rather than trying to remember everything in your head for later. Trust me, you may believe you will remember things later, but you most likely will never remember it in the same way or the exact wording as you did before. It is good to brainstorm about things and keep them written down for later.

7. Makes a good hobby

Writing is a great hobby. It is easy to do anywhere you go, doesn’t take much effort and is good for your mind. Writing can be a great hobby to have just for occasional free time between classes or work.
