*currently shopping entire article* The days of mild weather in the Big Apple are long gone as we bring in the new year. Here are a few items you need for your next winter hot girl walk or subway run.

1. ‘OL RELIABLE BLACK BOOTS It seems like a comfortable and equally as stylish boot is hard to come by these days. The great thing about a black boot is you can easily dress it up or down depending on your destination. Throw in black boots in your current shoe rotation and you will at least look comfortable and stylish running to catch your next train. As Nancy Sinatra said, “these boots were made were made for walking.” Make sure to also check for a weather repellent spray for your boot material to prevent water and salt stains!

2. TURTLE NECK EVERYTHANGGG I personally think New York City triumphs over Chi-town for “windiest U.S. city” (or Dodge City, I guess?). The greatest item to protect yourself from temperature-dropping wind chill is a classic turtle neck. A chunky one is even better too. Turtle necks, by-nature, elongate the neck– bringing out your facial structure and cheat-code to frame the eyes.

3. KEEPING THOSE LEGS WARM WIDE LEG PANTS, MOM JEANS, FLARE JEANS, LEG WARMERS, FLEECE-LINED LEGGINGS– whatever works to relieve your extremities of the cold. These are must-haves for a night on the town. For those on the taller side, trying to protect your ankles and feet can be a nightmare. I suggest trying pants on in-person before purchasing or researching what brands sell pants for tall people!

4. CANNOT FORGET THE BIG BLACK PUFFER JACKET… Another way to break the wind without a flimsy windbreaker is your classic winter puffer jacket. I personally love one that extends to my knees. However, the uber popular North Face brand puffer jackets seem to really speak to consumers in the New York City-area (or colleges in general). Check out stores like ASOS, T.J. Maxx, H&M, Marshalls and SuperDry for more ~affordable~ dupes! Additionally, you cannot go wrong with an attached hood for those random snow falls. Adding some character to your puffer with faux fur, faux leather, quilted or corduroy textures will surely jazz up the look too.

5. SOME ACCESSORIES THAT ADD A BIT OF WINTER ELEGANCE Accessories are a perfect and easy way to make your outfit your own. Especially in the winter, when everyone is roughly wearing similar staple pieces (Like what I did there?). Throw on a nice pair of gloves, lined hats, ear muffs, leg warmers, fuzzy socks to peak out of your boots, thick scarves, or a cold weather head band and you will be set to survive another day in a glorious New York City winter!

Of course, always wear what makes you feel comfortable and self-expressive. It’s New York City, at the end of the day!
