How to Become a Money-Savvy College Girl

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fordham chapter.

Being a college student can get way too expensive. There, I said it. But you’re not helpless! There are plenty of things that you can do to save money and budget accordingly, while still having the time of your life!

  1. Use your meal plan! Seriously, if you have a meal plan, use it. I know that going out to eat and ordering takeout is tempting, but those purchases will quickly start to add up. Using your meal plan is a cheap alternative, and while the food might not be Gordon Ramsey level quality, it’s still food.

  2. Switch to cheaper body care products! During my Freshman year of college, I thought it was finally time that I started spending $50 on a moisturizer. I was wrong. There’s nothing wrong with using cheaper versions of body care products, as long as they work for your skin. Take a look at Her Campus for college-girl friendly products!

  3. Use your student discount! Discovering the magic of a student discount basically saved my life when I started college, and the beauty is, as long as you have your school ID with you, you can almost always use it. Websites like UNiDAYS are amazing and have coupons and deals for tons of your favorite brands, including Adidas, Nike, ASOS, and Urban Outfitters.

  4. SAVE! If you don’t have a job while you’re at school this one may be a bit more difficult, but try to put away a certain amount of money each week into a savings account. Whether it’s two dollars or twenty dollars, if you’re saving each week you’ll have a nice rainy day fund to use for whatever you want!
