Campus Couture: Zaily Valoy, GSB ’11

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fordham chapter.

Meet your Fordham Fashionista of the Week!

Name: Zaily Valoy
Major: Accounting

Hometown: Spanish Harlem

What are some of your hobbies and interests? When I have spare time, I love to bake!  I especially love baking cakes and brownies. Last summer, a friend and I participated in the Great American Bake Sale, and all our proceeds from the baked goods we sold helped buy more lunches for students in New York City public schools. I also love to knit on my spare time (even on the bus or the subway!). I knitted two bikini tops last summer for a friend and she loved them! I plan to make some more for this summer. Whenever I am somewhere warm, I also love to tan!

How do you describe your style? In college, I’d say my style has matured. I think I have a clean urban look.

What accessories can’t you live without? I’d feel naked without my watch! I only take it off when I am changing it to coordinate it with another outfit!

What’s your fashion motto? Do your research! If you are reading a magazine and like something, check out the credits for more details. Look up the items online. If they are too expensive, you can always find an alternative item online for a better price!

What are your favorite places to shop & your favorite designers? I love shopping at department stores like Macys and Lord and Taylor because of their variety, Zara, H&M, Nicole Miller, Steve Madden, Forever 21, and ASOS. For unique things, I love searching online stores, especially etsy.com!

Any celebrities whose style you admire?  I think the Kardashian sisters know how to dress sexy, but keep it sophisticated!

How will you carry your style over into the spring? I’m definitely ready to start wearing more open toed sandals, loose tops, and solid colored shorts with tank tops.

Any current trends you love/hate? I love the nautical look (anything with navy and white with stripes), anything with floral patterns and one-shouldered dresses.I love animal prints too! I hate harem pants, shirts with the name brand logo across the front (I like brands, but everyone doesn’t have to know what brand you are wearing!).

Have you ever worn something you regret wearing now? In junior high, I thought it was cool to wear black and white all over with a matching cow print handbag! All my friends called it moo moo wear for a while! Haha.

What tips do you have for Fordham students who want to change up their style? Look your best, but always look best to make yourself feel good and not anyone else! I feel that looking your best not only makes you look good, but gives you a little confidence boost. A good way to start off is changing your style up with accessories.
