In the past few years, singer-songwriter Mitski has gained viral success on TikTok with her songs “Nobody” and “My Love Mine All Mine”. Unfortunately, these newfound fans faced online backlash for their out-of-pocket behavior at her live performances.

Mitski is known for her unique stage presence and performance style. As she sings, she tells a physical story with her movements. She expresses the vulnerability present in her songs, yet some “fans” take this as an opportunity to laugh or call things out at her.

In between songs and sets, audience members have been known to meow and shout out words like, “mother,” as well as other comments the artist has stated make her uncomfortable.

In 2019, Mitski took an indefinite break from touring partly due to the “super-saturated” consumerism of the industry, and genuine fans of hers are shook at the threat of another hiatus. Mitski is a notorious introvert, whose writing is too substantial to be lost to the judgement (or lack thereof) that comes with overconsumption. If you find yourself at a Mitski concert, it is in everybody’s interest that you respect the performance; I promise you won’t regret it.
