When Life Doesn’t Go According To Plan

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FIU chapter.

As college students, it is hard not to make a plan and set goals to get exactly where we want to be in life.

From the time you are a senior in high school, you have probably decided what college to attend and maybe even what area you want to study. Many of us have some expectancy of what college will be like and give ourselves a timeline for milestone life events such as graduating.

But what comes after college?

Most of us expect to follow the generic plan of going to college, graduating, starting a career, and maybe settling down at some point. However, adulthood post-graduation can seem like a bit of a gray area more than a clear end goal at times. Things are constantly changing in our lives and those changes can throw off our plans entirely and make us question everything.

Personally, from the time that I was in high school I thought I had my life planned out and set goals accordingly. I thought I would go to college and then continue on to law school but now that I am at the end of my senior year in my undergraduate studies, my plans have changed.

Just because your life does not go according to plan does not mean that it is the end of the world. Sometimes we need things to change in order to figure out what we truly want. Uncertainty can provide us with the perspective we need.
