Professor Jaime Canaves asked his architecture students to design water shoes. The only catch—the students have to use those shoes to walk across the 175-foot-wide lake behind GL.

FIU’s 26th annual Walk on Water contest took place on November 10, 2015.  President Rosenberg made an appearance at the event.

“FIU has a reputation because of its students—students who set a goal and exceed that goal. That’s what it means to be Worlds Ahead,” Rosenberg said.

Daniel Tabet won the $1,000 prize after being the first student to successfully make it across the lake. Everyone else who was successful received an ‘A’ in the class.

Tabet said that he was hopeful going into the competition.

“I was expecting the best, but fearing the worst,” he said.

Tabet will probably spend some of the money buying a few drinks. Cheers to you and your water shoes, Daniel Tabet!
