Top Three Places to Study at FIU If You’re Actually Trying to Study

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FIU chapter.

Occasionally, we all need a break from our usual study spots because let’s be real, we never get things done when we try studying in GL. And “study groups” seem to lean more towards the topic of gossip rather than the topic of your class discussion. If you are genuinely trying to remain focused this semester, then you’ll want to keep reading to learn about the top three places to study around campus.

If you are an outdoorsy person like I am, then the middle of DM is your spot. The whimsical, open-air space is the perfect space to concentrate, with seating arrangements that allow you to sit alone or with a friend! Whichever you chose, the reflective, blue glass floors along with the spiral garden in the sky will make you feel more at peace and more in tune with your studies. (This spot is unfortunately underrated. However, this is great for you because nine times out of 10 you will find a place to sit.)

A short walk away from DM is our second spot in GC. If you can abstain from the temptation of walking past your friends mingling in order to make it up to the second and third floor, you will find hidden sofas all around. Walk up the main stair case and claim your throne. Not only will you have a comfy seat, but you’re also walking distance from the Barnes and Noble’s café. If you need a source of energy or a colada to help you survive, Café Bustelo is right downstairs!

Last but certainly not least, my favorite of all the options: the gym. I know what you’re thinking, “What in the world is this girl talking about?” But if you have ever gotten the courage to walk in to the FIU gym you will realize the following:

1. It’s actually not that scary.

2. They have amazing smoothies.

3. They have a lot of tables that are not being used most of the time.

What could possibly be better then studying with a view of guys lifting? And who knows, you might just be inspired to work out after you finishing writing your 10-page research paper!

It is never too early in the semester to start claiming your study spots. Explore different options and figure out which spots work for you and which ones are no fly zones for midterms and finals!
