How did you get started in swimwear design?
- Designing swimwear was something I had always found amusing, but never really thought possible to pursue. My mother, an AI graduate in Fashion Design, helped me put together a few sketches and purchase some fabric to put together my first few swimsuit pieces last December. I launched an Instagram account and a small online store and began marketing my swimwear as much as I could.
Where do you get the inspiration for your designs?
- As cliche as it sounds, I’ve realized that I can find inspiration almost anywhere. I’ll catch myself getting sudden epiphanies for a really cool swimsuit design at work or at school and I’ll have to find a piece of paper and sketch it before it escapes me. My sketchbook is filled with stapled paper drawings. I also love going through vision boards my mom would put together in college and feed off things that were trending back in the day.
What’s the job or career path you would want to pursue once you graduate?
- I hope that my degree may assist in helping my small business expand. I hope to still be working hard on this five or ten years from now.
Most memorable moment at FIU thus far?
- Being late to a final exam because I could not find parking.
Advice to aspiring young entrepreneurs like you?
- I’m still starting up myself, but I would advise young entrepreneurs to be persistent and trust your gut.
