How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days centers around Benjamin Barry (Matthew McConaughey), an advertising executive, and Andie Anderson (Kate Hudson), a magazine columnist. Andie wants to push the limits of what she can write about in her next column piece and comes up with the idea of creating an article about how to get a guy to leave you in 10 days. As Andie goes out to find a guy she can use as her experiment, she meets Benjamin, who thinks he can make any woman fall in love with him in 10 days. Chaos ensues between the two of them as Andie tries to drive Ben away while Ben tries to make Andie fall in love with him, all within 10 days. This movie is one of the best rom-coms I’ve ever seen and I can wholeheartedly say that it’s a must-watch!

Sweet Home Alabama revolves around Melanie Carmichael, played by Reese Witherspoon, who is a New York City fashion designer, as she gets engaged to the major’s son, Andrew Hennings (Patrick Dempsey). Before she can marry Andrew, Melanie has go back home to Alabama, so she can get a divorce from her husband, Jake, whom she hasn’t seen in 7 years. This movie is at the top of my recommended movies to watch list and it’s a classic rom-com!

27 Dresses tells the story of Jane, played by Katherine Heigl, who’s been a bridesmaid at her friends’ weddings 27 times, as she watches her younger sister marry the man Jane’s in love with. When Kevin (James Marsden), a columnist, hears about Jane’s story, he decides to write about it. 27 Dresses puts its own comical spin to the phrase, “always a bridesmaid, never a bride.” Although it may seem a little cliché at times, this movie is a rom-com must-watch.

13 Going on 30 is a fantasy rom-com that starts at Jenna’s, played by Jennifer Garner, 13th birthday party where she’s humiliated by her friends and makes a wish that she was 30 years old. She wakes up the next morning, having aged 17 years, with everything she could ever want, except her childhood best friend Matt (Mark Ruffalo). As Jenna tries to restore her friendship with Matt, she realizes the life she wanted isn’t perfect and wishes go back to being a 13 year old. This movie is another classic rom-com and gives us nostalgia from our teenage years.

50 First Dates is about Henry, played by Adam Sandler, who’s afraid of commitment, until he meets Lucy, played by Drew Barrymore. They immediately hit it off and Henry thinks he found the girl of his dreams until he finds out that due to a brain injury that resulted from a car accident, Lucy has short-term memory loss. Every morning, Lucy has no memory of the night before, so Henry tries to make her fall in love with him – every single day. This movie is romantic and hilarious in its own way – a true rom-com!

10 Things I Hate About You is based off of Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew, so you already know it’s going to be a good movie. The movie revolves around popular-girl-at-school Bianca, played by Larisa Oleynik, whose father says she can’t date until her older sister Kat, played by Julia Stiles does. Cameron, played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, meets Bianca and enlists the help of Patrick, played by Heath Ledger, to date Kat so that Cameron can date Bianca. This movie is a classic 90s rom-com and it’s a must-see!

Sixteen Candles centers around Samantha, played by Molly Ringwald, trying to celebrate her 16th birthday, but her family forgets the occasion, due to her older sister’s wedding being the next day. Samantha also has a crush on the most popular guy in school, Jake, and she tries to win him over while also fighting off Ted, a freshman who has a crush on her. I guess you could say Samantha’s sweet sixteenth is anything but sweet. This movie is another rom-com that you just have to watch – plus it’s a John Hughes classic!
These rom-coms are all special to me in their own ways and are all must-watches. Take my word for it when I tell you that you’ll never be bored when you watch these movies!
